GED in Florida

In Florida, you can take the GED test online or at a testing center. You need to pass the four subtests of the GED exam if you want to earn your GED diploma.

BestGEDClasses offers free practice tests and free online GED classes to help you prepare for the GED exam. Registration for the exam must be done on the official website of GED Testing Service, GED.com.

The GED exam includes four independent, modular sub-exams that measure a GED tester’s knowledge across these academic subject fields:

  • Mathematical Reasoning
  • Social Studies
  • Reasoning through Language Arts
  • Science

The cost of the GED® test in Florida is $128 for the complete battery of four tests ($32 for each individual test) when taken at an official testing site.

The online proctored (O.P.) GED exam costs $38 per subtest, so $152 in total.

The state of Florida requires schools that offer GED prep classes to charge $30 per term, but there are facilities where you can find assistance at no charge.

To earn your GED diploma, you have to score at least 145 points on each sub-test (so an overall score of no less than 580).

Most GED candidates in Florida choose GED Language Arts as their first test.

The GED exam is modular, meaning you can take (and pay for) the four GED subtests (modules) one at a time.

This page informs you about all GED test resources that will successfully prepare you to take the GED test.

Florida GED Testing Requirements

  • In Florida, the minimum age is 16 years, though applicants 16 & 17 must meet strict additional requirements. See a testing center near you.
  • You cannot already hold a school diploma.
  • You cannot be signed up for another school program.
  • Florida has no residency requirement.
  • In Florida, you don’t need to attend a prep course.
  • There’s also no requirement to first take the GED Ready® practice test, except when you take the GED exam online.

Until recently, you were required to go to a designated test site if you wanted to sit for the GED test.

There was no online option, but fortunately, all of that changed when the online proctored (O.P.) GED exam was introduced (read more below).

The GED tests are available in English and Spanish, but not all test centers offer both options. So get well informed!

In Florida, you can retake a GED subtest twice without any waiting period. When you’ve failed a subject test three times, though, there is a waiting time of 60 days before you can retake that subject test again.

The first two retakes are offered at a reduced fee of $12 for the testing center, but you’ll have to use this offer within one year. After that, regular fees apply again. This does NOT count for online GED testing!

The State of Florida requires all adult education sites (including GED and ESOL classes) to charge a fee of $60-$90 per year or $30-$45 per term (2 terms per year).

Florida GED Scoring

The four GED tests are scored on a 100-200 scale. The passing score is 145 on all four subtests. Scoring is as follows:

  • Below Passing Score: 100 – 144
  • High School Equivalency Score: 145 – 164
  • College-Ready Score: 165 – 174
  • College-Ready + Credit Score: 175 – 200

The Florida GED Diploma

Upon successful completion of the four GED subtests, you will receive the Florida GED diploma.

This document is, all across America, accepted as the equivalency of a high school diploma by federal and state government agencies, employers, and higher education institutions.

If you don’t have a high school diploma, earning your GED credential is important as it offers you the chance to get good or better employment and allows for a college education.

The GED diploma will definitely improve your living conditions.

FAQ about GED in Florida

What are the Florida GED testing requirements?

The GED is for adults who didn’t finish high school. In Florida, GED test-takers need to be 16 years old or older, though, for those 16 or 17, additional requirements count. In Florida, there’s no state residency requirement, and GED testers also are not required to first attend a prep course or take a practice test.
