In Florida, you’ll have to pass the GED exam to secure your high school equivalency (HSE) diploma.
HSE testing gives high school dropouts another chance for earning an equivalent degree.
The GED exam comes with four independent tests (modules) in Social Studies, Science, Literacy, and Math.
You can prepare and pay for one module at a time as long as you pass all four subtests within two years.
Online GED testing is not offered. You must come in person to a state-designated GED test center.

The GED exam
The latest version of the computer-based GED testing system guarantees that students who pass the GED exam meet the expectations and requirements of modern day business.
Students holding the GED certificate have knowledge and skills comparable to a graduating high school student, and the GED graduate with a higher pass score is prepared to follow university and college courses. In the past, there had been some serious questions about this, and the GED exam really needed to be upgraded. In the contemporary job market, you really need a high school education or you won’t get hired at all.
The four GED tests
The GED test has 4 subject tests where there used to five (the Literacy reading and Literacy writing subject fields were put into one Literacy part), and the exam is more comprehensive. The other parts are Social Studies, Math, and Science, and now, more than ever, good preparation is required. Join one of the classes listed above, take online prep courses, get books from your library or bookstore, do it the way you want, as long as you become ready for the test.
A challenging test
The GED exam is quite challenging, so make sure you’ll become optimally prepared for the entirely computer-based GED exam. The GED (General Education Development) program is particularly for people who did not finish high school and offers them the opportunity to catch up by passing the four tests and earn a credential that is equivalent to a high school diploma.
Four separate tests
Even though the GED exam is entirely ‘digitalized’ there is no online GED testing. You must take the tests in person at a state-designated testing site. The GED has become modular. You have the option to take one or more subtests (modules) at a time and your test results count for two years from the moment of your first registration.
About Cape Coral
Cape Coral (population 166,000) is a relatively young city (founded in 1957) in Lee County, on Florida’s Gulf of Mexico. The town is a vibrant waterfront community and at the heart of Southwest Florida opportunities. The city’s motto is “Living the Dream in Southwest Florida”, and it really is a place where families and businesses can thrive.
Because of the city’s agreeable climate, the abundance of forests, and its location on the Gulf of Mexico, Cape Coral is the perfect destination for your boating, fishing, or hiking trips. You can go hiking, boating and fishing and of course there are plenty of great golf courses in the area.
Also interesting is Cape Coral’s downtown Farmers’ Market that opens every Saturday from October to May, and here, local vendors offer their fresh Southwest Florida produce.
Don’t forget to also check out the Surfside Sunset Market on Tuesday, that offers a year-round experience and indoor and air-conditioned shopping from May to November. Call 239-549-6900 (ext. 101) for more information.
*) Cape Coral Institute of Technology
Cape Coral Institute of Technology prepares students for the Florida workforce and provides quality technical training by committed and professional instructors. The school offers many educational programs and allows for education to students without a high school or GED diploma (except for health sciences programs).
The school encourages students to earn their GED diploma at the school’s Learning Center while, at the same time, they can take business or technology classes.
