The four GED tests

All applicants 18 or older are eligible to sit for the GED exam, though it is highly recommended that they take the Official GED Practice Test before actually taking one (or more) of the new GED exam that includes four separate tests in Math, Literacy, Social Studies, and Science. Candidates who are 16 or 17, have specific extra requirements that they must meet before they can take the exam.

One test at a time

The new GED program offers you the option to take one (or more) of the four tests when you are ready to do so within a 2-year time frame. No longer is there the need to take the whole battery in a row. Prepare for one test (also called ‘module’), pass that section and start preparing for the next part. This really is a great improvement compared to the old GED exam, and because of computer-based testing, you will have your test results right away except for the essay part.

GED registration and passing score

Go to GED.com for all sorts of related information, and register with MyGED for a portal that takes you through every aspect of the new GED examination. Practice tests will determine how well (or not) you are prepared and let you discover what subject(s) to concentrate on most to become successful. At GED prep classes, staff members will go over your results and tell you which classes or lessons are most needed to pass the GED exam.

The new GED exam required you to score no less than 150 points on each one of the four testing sections, but this was brought down to 145 at the beginning of 2016 because studies had shown that the bar was raised too high for GED test takers to be able to pass.

Is the GED exam offered online?

The answer is NO. Though the entire GED program was ‘digitalized’ and is done on a computer, you must come to an official GED testing site to take (one or more of) the four GED tests. There is NO online GED exam offering. So if you come across a website that states something else you must understand that this is fraud. Be wise and don’t get fooled by these robbers, their so-called ‘diplomas’ or ‘certificates’ are not even worth the paper they’re printed on. Getting ready for the test online is a perfect option, though, so take advantage of our free video program to get all set!
