Michigan uses multiple options for High Scool Equivalency (HSE) testing, the GED®, TASC, and HiSET.
The GED is fully computerized whereas the HiSET and TASC are offered both on-paper and on-computer.
HSE testing gives persons without a high school diploma the chance to acquire an equivalent degree.
You can find hundreds of locations all over the state where GED, HiSET, or TASC prep classes are organized.
These prep classes will assist you in becoming all set to successfully sit for Michigan’s HSE (High School Equivalency) exam.
After completion of the GED, HiSET, or TASC exam, you will be awarded the HSE diploma which is nationwide regarded as equivalent to a high school diploma by virtually all employers, recruiters, government agencies, colleges, and universities.
The HSE credential will have a positive impact on people’s lives and listed in this post are all facilities in major Michigan areas where you can find GED, HiSET, or TASC classes for proper preparation.
Michigan HSE testing requirements
Minimum age is 18 (for 16/17 yr. olds restrictions apply, so contact a testing site for details).
Michigan GED exam fee: $150 for all 4 tests ($37.50 per subject field). HiSET and TASC are cheaper.
There is NO Michigan residency requirement.
There is no requirement to take an HSE practice test.
You don’t have a high school credential and are not engaged in another program.
The HSE program is crucial for adults who did not finish their high school education and offers them one more chance to acquire an equivalent diploma. Obtaining the HSE certificate will enhance their employment prospects and open up doors to a college education.

GED-TASC-HiSET – who qualifies
Not everybody can sign up for the HSE program. If you already have a high school diploma or if you are registered for another school program, you will not be allowed to take the HSE exam. You need to be at least 18 years old, though 16/7 year old’s may qualify if they meet specific requirements.
How to start
When you feel you are ready to go the HSE path, remember these guidelines and get ahead: Get in touch with a GED, TASC. or HiSET preparation site close to you and find out if you qualify to take the HSE exam. If you do so, check testing dates and eventual fees as they may vary. Check all requirements and regulations at your local HSE test center, and become perfectly prepared to take the HSE exam.
Community bookstores and libraries can also supply all kinds of materials, and there are many locations near you where HSE preparation classes are offered, mostly at no cost at all. Another good alternative is offered through online prep courses. So show up at the exam well-prepared, pass the exam, and get your HSE test diploma.
Free GED online prep in Michigan
The GED program is more than just a series of four tests. Go to GED.com and you can create your own account with MyGED, an online portal to prepare and study for the GED exam, and here you can sign up and schedule your appointments to sit for the exam. It also allows you to see your test results and the program provides you with a lot of information about jobs options and college education. MyGED is highly flexible, convenient, and gives you the support you will need to pass the GED exam and hands you the tools to take control of your life and future.
A few years back, the GED exam was revamped to make sure that it measures what colleges and employers expect of candidates, and the four content areas are: Reasoning Through Language Arts (2 hours, 35 minutes), Mathematical Reasoning (2 hours, 15 minutes), Science (1 hour, 30 minutes), and Social Studies (1 hour, 10 minutes). The exam is entirely computer-based and offered in English and Spanish.
You have the option to take one module (subtest) at a time within a 2-year time frame. This counts for the GED, TASC, and HiSET exams. These last two include five subtests in Language Reading, Language Writing, Math, Social Studies, and Science. These tests are scored differently than the GED.
Michigan GED price tag
The cost of the Michigan GED exam is $37.50 per subject, so a total of $150 for all four tests. You can register and pay for one subject at a time. Retesting is $10.00 for each subject (up to three times per subject!). Registration for the new GED exam has become very easy! Simply sign up via GED.com or call 1-877-392-6433. Registration doesn’t mean you need to schedule an exam, you do that only when you feel you are ready to do so but keep in mind that GED completion has to be achieved within two years after your first registration. The TASC and HiSET subtests can also be taken separately and are slightly cheaper than the GED.
There is NO online GED, HiSET, or TASC testing, you must go to a Michigan testing site in person. If you come across a website that tells you something else, you can be sure you deal with fraud. Two years after the latest version of the GED test was rolled out across America, the passing score for each subject test was lowered to 145 (down from 150) on a scale that goes from 100 to 200 as it appeared to have been set too high.
The four GED subtests are in Science, Math, Social Studies, and Literacy. HiSET and TASC are scored in their own ways.
