GED in Michigan

Michigan uses multiple options for High Scool Equivalency (HSE) testing, the GED®, TASC, and HiSET®. The GED is fully computerized whereas the HiSET and TASC are offered both on-paper and on-computer.

HSE testing gives persons without a high school diploma the chance to acquire an equivalent degree.

You can find hundreds of locations all over the state where GED, HiSET, or TASC prep classes are organized.

These prep classes will assist you in becoming all set to successfully sit for Michigan’s HSE (High School Equivalency) exam.

After completion of the GED, HiSET, or TASC exam, you will be awarded the Michigan HSE diploma which is nationwide regarded as equivalent to a high school diploma by virtually all employers, recruiters, government agencies, colleges, and universities.

The HSE credential will have a positive impact on people’s lives and listed in this post are all facilities in major Michigan areas where you can find GED, HiSET, or TASC classes for proper preparation.

Michigan GED testing requirements

The minimum age is 16 but for applicants 16 and 17 years of age, restrictions apply, so contact a testing site for details.

Michigan GED exam fee: $150 for all 4 tests ($37.50 per subject field). HiSET and TASC are cheaper (see below).

There is NO Michigan residency requirement.

There is no requirement to first take the GED Ready® practice test or another HSE practice test.

You don’t have a high school credential and are not engaged in another program.

In case you fail one of the GED subtests, there is no waiting period in Michigan to take that test again, but when you fail that subtest 3 times, a waiting period of 60 days applies.

The first two GED retakes will set you back just $10 each (for the test center fee) but you’ll have to take them within one year, otherwise, original fees will apply again.

The HSE program is crucial for adults who did not finish their high school education. It offers them one more chance to acquire an equivalent diploma. Obtaining the HSE certificate will enhance their employment prospects and open up doors to a college education.

GED-TASC-HiSET – Who qualifies

Not everybody can sign up for the HSE program. If you already have a high school diploma or if you are registered for another school program, you will not be allowed to take the HSE exam. You need to be at least 18 years old, though 16/17-year-olds may qualify if they meet specific requirements.

Online HiSET-GED testing

Until recently, you could not take the HiSET or GED exam over the internet. Now, that has changed. HiSET testing is now possible in a proctored online way and also GED Testing Service offers the GED exam online as well.

Michigan GED price tag

The cost of the Michigan GED exam is $37.50 per subject, so a total of $150 for all four tests. You can register and pay for one subject at a time. Retesting is $10.00 for each subject (up to two times per subject, after that regular fees apply again). These retakes at the reduced rate must be completed within one year. After that, the full price must be paid again.

Registration for the GED exam has become very easy! Simply sign up via GED.com or call 1-877-392-6433. Registration doesn’t mean you need to schedule an exam, you do that only when you feel you are ready to do so.  The TASC and HiSET subtests can also be taken separately and are slightly cheaper than the GED.

HiSET cost

The five HiSET subtests will set you back as follows: the first computer-based test costs $48.75 ($10.75 for ETS, $8 for the test center, and a 1-time state administration fee of $30). Each additional computer-based subtest is $18.75 ($10.75 for ETS and an $8 fee for the test center).

The first paper-based subtest will cost you $53 ($15 for ETS and an $8 fee for the test center, and a 1-time state administration fee of $30) Each additional paper-based HiSET subtest costs $23 ($15 for ETS fee and an $8 test center fee).

You will get two retests per subject test art the reduced rate of $8 (test center fee) but you’ll have to take these retests within one year or there’ll be a new annual state registration fee of $30. and original testing fees will apply again.

TASC cost

The five-test TASC Exam costs $131 or $26.20 for each individual subtest. You have two free retests per subject test if you fail that module. You can register for one of the five subtests at a time if you wish. If you want to retake one of the TASC subtests to get a higher score, you’ll have to pay the regular price.

How to start

When you feel you are ready to go the HSE path, remember these guidelines and get ahead: Get in touch with a GED, TASC, or HiSET preparation site close to you and find out if you qualify to take the HSE exam. If you do so, check testing dates and eventual fees as they may vary. Check all requirements and regulations at your local HSE test center, and become perfectly prepared to take the HSE exam.

Community bookstores and libraries can also supply all kinds of materials, and there are many locations near you where HSE preparation classes are offered, mostly at no cost at all. Another good alternative is offered through online prep courses. So show up at the exam well-prepared, pass the exam, and get your HSE test diploma.

GED registration

The GED program is more than just a series of four tests. Go to GED.com and you can create your own account with MyGED, an online portal to prepare and study for the GED exam, and here you can sign up and schedule your appointments to sit for the exam.

It also allows you to see your test results and the program provides you with a lot of information about job options and college education. MyGED is highly flexible, convenient, and gives you the support you will need to pass the GED exam and hands you the tools to take control of your life and future.

A few years back, the GED exam was revamped to make sure that it measures what colleges and employers expect of candidates. The four content areas are: Reasoning Through Language Arts (2 hours, 35 minutes), Mathematical Reasoning (2 hours, 15 minutes), Science (1 hour, 30 minutes), and Social Studies (1 hour, 10 minutes). The exam is entirely computer-based and offered in English and Spanish.

You have the option to take one module (subtest) at a time. This counts for the GED, TASC, and HiSET exams. These last two include five subtests in Language Reading, Language Writing, Math, Social Studies, and Science. These tests are scored differently than the GED.

The GED passing score on each subject test is 145 on a scale that goes from 100 to 200. The four GED subtests are in Science, Math, Social Studies, and Literacy. HiSET and TASC are scored in their own ways.
