The Northwest Michigan Adult Career Training (CT) program is a free, 18-week education and training program designed to develop skilled workers for the contemporary workplace.
The program is a cooperation between the Wexford-Missaukee Career Tech Center, local employers, adult education programs, and Michigan Works!
The ACT program offers applicants the chance to develop job skills, get a high school or GED diploma, and a job in the local healthcare, manufacturing, or hospitality industry at the entry level.

Baker College and Michigan Works! have partnered to provide free GED prep classes and testing. They opened a GED testing center, so students looking to earn their GED diplomas can save significantly on transportation costs, and classes and testing are free.
Students take placement tests at the Innovation High School Cadillac Learning Lab and will go from there.

The GED and HiSET Modular Subtests
The GED exam consists of four independent, modular subtests that students can take separately in any order.
The four subtests are in the fields of
- Literacy (Reasoning through Language Arts)
- Math (Mathematical Reasoning)
- Social Studies
- Science
The HiSET consists of five tests that can be taken separately as well. Here, the Literacy sections include separate reading and writing tests.
Testing happens at a level comparable to that of graduating high schoolers.

Online GED, HiSET Testing
In earlier days, online GED or HiSET testing was never an option. You had to come in person to one of Michigan’s official testing sites.
A few years back, however, that changed with the advent of the online GED and HiSET exams.

To take the GED exam online, you must first achieve passing scores (‘green’ zone results) on the GED Ready practice test by GED Testing Service.
You need to pass four of these GED Ready practice tests, one for each GED subtest. One GED Ready test is $7.99, so that will add another $32 to your overall Michigan GED test fees.
