West Virginia is using the TASC for its HSE (high school equivalency) testing program. HSE testing offers individuals who didn’t finish high school the chance to earn a credential that’s equivalent to a standard high school diploma.
As one of only a few states, West Virginia is still offering the HSE test (TASC) for free to its residents.
The Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC) is cheaper than the GED® and available both in a paper and computer format while the GED is only offered on a computer.
The TASC exam comes with five subtests in Language Reading, Language Writing, Science, Math, and Social Studies.
The TASC passing score is 500 (out of 800) on each of the 5 individual tests and the essay part must have a score of no less than 2 out of 8.
This post includes a full listing of West Virginia TASC prep facilities. Just choose your nearest city to find all the options in your area.
Preparation is more important than ever before and there is hardly any job out there that doesn’t require applicants to hold at least a secondary education degree.
Online GED or TASC testing is not available. You are required to show up in person at an official TASC testing site.

GED and TASC – How To Get Started
You will not be able to register for the TASC (Test Assessing Secondary Completion) program if you already have a high school diploma or when you are signed up for any other school program. By the time you think you are ready to go the TASC way, take these guidelines at heart to get ahead. Locate a TASC prep site in your region to see if you qualify. Learn about regulation, policies, and if there’s any cost involved.
Become optimally prepared before you take the test. Community bookstores and libraries can supply lots of material, and there are a few good and free online courses as well that provide great help. Most probably, though, the best is to attend (mostly free) preparation classes at one of the many facilities in your neighborhood Just check your options by clicking on your nearest city in the listing above.
Online video lessons and practice tests like the ones presented on this website are great support for students who are self-disciplined and are good at learning independently. By using our free services, they can get all set for the five TASC subtests in a short period of time and take them successfully at an official test center and work towards a better life.
Free GED/TASC Online Prep In West Virginia
Like before, preparation is hugely important, maybe even more so now. If you are a person who is disciplined and self-motivated, online classes may be your ticket. If you prefer to attend a physical classroom, there are (free) TASC prep facilities all across West Virginia, just check out our post on your city and surroundings. You may as well get some books from the local library or bookstore if you prefer to study by yourself at home instead of in a physical class. People who hold the high school equivalency credential may qualify for a great job at their preferred business.
For adults who never finished high school, getting their High School Equivalency diploma is very important because it offers them the opportunity to find a good job or improve their position and it clears the way into colleges and universities. Please note that the TASC, like the GED, is NOT available online. Testing must be done at state-approved testing sites.
The diploma that you’ll receive when you’ve finished the five TASC subtests (one at a time if you wish) allows for a college education and you may even complete academic graduate programs. Financial aid and other support are available at most schools so contact the department education office and request more info from the staff. Check also if other requirements apply for your preferred higher education program for when you’ve passed the West Virginia GED (TASC) exam.
