GED Classes Ontario, California

This post lists all available GED® prep locations and testing sites in the Ontario, California, region.

The state of California gave the new GED® examination the OK for High School Equivalency (HSE) testing, but also introduced the two nationally available new alternatives HiSET and TASC for this purpose. If you want to see if you qualify, go to GED in California, and you can check also our practice tests for your GED exam here.

GED passing score

The GED program, like the HiSET and TASC programs, helps adult without a high school diploma obtain the California High School Equivalency Certificate. Recently (in January 2016), the passing score on each of the four independent GED tests was lowered to 145 (it was 150). Details can be found in this website’s GED News articles.

GED level

All three exams assess knowledge at the level of a graduating high school student and the new GED exam comes with four individual tests on the academic subjects of Math, Science, Social Studies, and Literacy. The TASC and HiSET exams have five testing subjects (just like the former GED exam) and the literacy part has two tests on reading and writing.

GED Requirements in California

GED and the economy

We can find almost 4.2 million unfilled jobs in America, jobs that for the greater part ask for at least a high school education. This lack of rightly educated people has a negative effect on our economy, which is not running to its full potential. The remarkable situation is that the same time we find over 40 million adults who never received their high school degree.

If you can get hold of your GED diploma, you might be able to get one of these well-paying jobs. You will improve your personal earnings, your family will have better outlooks and you are helping the economy as well. Getting your GED is the most important step on the road to a more fulfilling life.

GED preparation

Be sure to come to a GED testing facility optimally prepared. The new GED exam is fully computer-based, and basic keyboarding skills are required as well. Sign up for classes at one of the above-listed facilities, and there are also some pretty good free online prep courses.

GED registration

Registration must be done online at GED.com. You will need to create an account with the online portal MyGED. Here you can discover a wealth of support and help how to prepare for the GED test the best way. This is where you can register for and schedule (or reschedule) your tests. Be aware that if you want to re-schedule you need to do it at least 24 hours in advance, or your money is gone.

The four GED tests

The GED exam was completely re-built to ensure it would remain a credible way of measuring applicants’ knowledge compared to that of graduating HS students. The new test has totally implemented what businesses and universities are expecting of GED graduates. The four tests are in these subject fields: Language Arts: 155 minutes (including a small break); Math: 120 minutes; Science: 90 minutes; and Social Studies: 90 minutes. You can take these tests separately and test results are valid for two years.

Alternatives HiSET and TASC

California also introduced two nationally accepted alternative HSE testing programs: the HiSET and the TASC exams. Testing centers are allowed to choose which of the three (GED-HiSET-TASC) systems they will use, or all three, so contact a testing center near you for specifics. The TASC and HiSET exams are cheaper than the GED, and also available in a paper-based format.

Online GED testing?

There is NO online GED testing. Test takers are required to come to a state-approved testing center to take the tests in person. Websites that tell a different thing are fraudulent. Please don’t get trapped by these con artists. Their ‘documents’ are without any worth and will surely be rejected by schools and employers. This also applies to HiSET and TASC.

GED – how it started

GED stands for General Education Development, and the program was designed as a high school equivalency exam to give returning WW II veterans a chance to complete their high school education in order to attend college or enter the workforce.

Later, civilians were also allowed to sit for the GED exam, but during the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s, the GED exam was mainly taken by individuals looking to enhance their scores and credentials for professional purposes. Since 1978, the GED program has been through revisions three times (1988, 2002, and 2014), and the most drastic revision was introduced in January 2014.

GED qualification criteria

Adults are eligible to sit for the GED tests if they meet the following criteria: they cannot have a secondary education degree, they cannot be currently engaged in another school program, they must be least 17 years old, and be California residents. Please check with your test center which test they use.

*) American Career College

American Career College has significantly grown to satisfy the need for highly educated and skilled healthcare workers in a wide range of disciplines. The school provides 14 one-of-a-kind healthcare educational programs at its five California locations.

ACC additionally features a free of charge GED preparation program to allow the school’s community members attain good positions with decent earnings and continue their academic education. In 2013, almost 100 applicants earned their GED diploma via the school’s community program, and they will go on to enroll in one of ACC’s healthcare programs to get on the pathway to a better future.

Today, for many Californians, higher education is unattainable, and fortunately, schools such as American Career College provide first-rate education and training to those who otherwise would have no chance to enroll in a college education or career training.
