GED Classes Los Angeles, California

Posted here are all GED® prep class locations and testing sites in the Los Angeles region.

California has embraced the GED exam for high school equivalency (HSE) purposes.

The state additionally welcomed the alternatives TASC and HiSET exams for that purpose.

The HSE program offers adults who quit high school prematurely the chance to secure an equivalent credential.

The GED is fully computerized and contains four separate modules in Literacy, Math, Science and Social Studies.

You can sit for the GED subtests one at a time and test results count for two years from the time of first registration.

The HiSET and TASC exams have separate reading and writing tests, so five tests in total, that can be taken separately as well.

Can I join the army with a GED?

HSE diploma acceptance

The GED (General Education Development) program (and also the alternatives HiSET and TASC) supports adults without a high school diploma to earn a credential that is equivalent to a regular high school diploma. All across North America, the credential is accepted in the same way as a regular high school diploma. The diploma will improve employment prospects and allows for continued education at institutions of higher education.

GED passing score

The new GED program came with a new scoring system as well. You were required to produce a score of at least 150 (on a scale 100-200) to pass that sub-test, but in early 2016 that was adjusted downwards to 145 points. Studies had indicated that the norm was set too high in relation to what graduating high school seniors are expected to command. Read more on this page. HiSET and TASC are scored in different ways. The HSE (high school equivalency) diploma is accepted by practically all U.S. schools and employers as equivalent to a common HS diploma.

One GED test at a time

You can prepare for and schedule one of the four sub-tests (modules) at a time. When you’re all set for one subject field, take that test and if you pass, you can move on to the next part. Your scores count for two years from your first registration.

Online HSE testing is NO option

Please be aware that the GED, TASC, and HiSET exams are not available online. You must appear in person at an official testing site and take the tests in person. Websites that have a different story are run by con artists. There is NO online high school equivalency testing. Online-bought documents have no value and will definitely not be accepted by schools or employers!

GED alternatives TASC and HiSET

California also lets its residents (or rather the test centers) the option to take another high school equivalency assessment and has welcomed the TASC and the HiSET examinations. These two alternatives are also available on paper (while the new GED exam is only available computer-based), and they are much cheaper than the new GED exam.

TASC and HiSET include five tests as the Literacy section is split up into a reading and a writing test. The HiSET is scored on a 1-20 scale and you must attain at least 8 points on each of the five tests. Your essay score cannot be less than 2 (out of 6) and your grand total needs to be in the 45-100 range.

The TASC is scored as follows: The maximum attainable score on each of the five tests is 800, and you need to come to no less than 500 points (so at least 2500 overall). On the essay section, you must score at least two points (out of 8).
