It doesn’t matter when you left school.
Both high school equivalency (HSE) exams must be done on a computer in New Jersey. The TASC exam was discontinued.
The GED has four independent modules (subtests) measuring a student’s knowledge of
- Math
- Social Studies
- Language
- Math
You have the option to take one GED subtest at a time. There’s no need to deal with the entire GED battery in one testing session.
The HiSET comes with individual reading and writing tests, so five tests overall that are also available separately.

A simple and easy way of getting your GED diploma.
Online HiSET and GED testing is now an option as well. In the past, testing had to be done at an official New Jersey testing site, but this has changed.

Introducing Online GED and HiSET Tests
Until recently, there was no way you could deal with the HiSET or GED test over the Internet. The tests were simply not available in online formats. Now, with the introduction of online HiSET and GED testing options, this has all changed.
If you want to read more about the new ‘HiSET-At-Home’ online testing possibility, check out this page: ‘Welcoming the online HiSET exam’ and for information about the newly launched online proctored GED exam, go to ‘Introducing the online GED test.’
GED Alternatives
For over seventy years, it had always been the only alternative for high school equivalency testing available in New Jersey. A few years back, many states switched to another provider or added cheaper options to their program.
There were two available alternatives to the GED exam, the HiSET, and the TASC exam. The TASC exam, however, was discontinued. Both the GED and HiSET need to be done on a computer in New Jersey, and testing site administrators are deciding which exam(s) they offer.
One of the main missions of this website is to get you all set for HSE (high school equivalency) testing fast and efficiently through, among other things, numerous free GED practice tests and lots of innovative HSE video lessons.
If you are ready to learn and work hard to improve your knowledge and skills, there is so much help that will lead to your professional success, financial health, and a better life in general. GED graduates are not only bound to improve their lives, but they will also strengthen and improve the lives of their families.
