On this page, you can find all GED testing facilities and prep class sites in the Edison area. New Jersey offers two options for high school equivalency testing: the GED and HiSET exams.
Both exams are available online and at New Jersey’s certified test centers. The TASC is no longer available.

The assessments are for adults without a high school diploma and give them the opportunity to acquire an equivalent degree.
GED® testing occurs via four individual tests covering the academic subjects of
- Language Arts
- Social Studies
- Math
- Science
You don’t have to complete all four GED tests (modules) in one session. The tests are available one at a time.
The HiSET includes five subtests that can also be taken separately. Here, the Literacy section has individual writing and reading tests.
Online GED Classes
A simple and easy way of getting your GED diploma.
In New Jersey, both exams are administered exclusively on a computer. Paper-based testing is not possible.
In the past, online testing was not available. But now, there are also options to take the HiSET and GED exams online. Check the bottom of this page for more information.

Introducing Online GED and HiSET Testing
In the past, if you wanted to sit for the HiSET or GED exam, you had to come to a state-approved New Jersey test facility. Online testing was just not offered. Well, this has now changed with the arrival of the online proctored GED and HiSET tests.
To learn all about the new HiSET-At-Home online exam, visit: ‘Welcoming the online HiSET test,’ and for information about the new online proctored GED exam, go to this article: ‘Introducing the online GED exam.’
Age Requirements
To qualify for taking the GED exam in New Jersey, students need to be at least 16 years of age. 16 or 17-year-old test-takers, however, must submit a so-called “Consent to Participate” form, and they must also hold written permission from their school districts.
Applicants cannot be enrolled in any public or private high school, and the “Consent to Participate” form needs to be signed by a parent or guardian and submitted to the GED Chief Examiner upon registering for the GED assessment.
New Jersey does not require GED testers to take any pre GED prep course prior to taking the 4 exams, nor are they required to first take the official GED practice test, the “GED-Ready” test, except when taking the tests online.
However, since the GED and HiSET exams are very rigorous, it is strongly recommended that you become optimally prepared.
Should a site be listed or removed? Are adjustments needed? We appreciate your advice here.
