The GED Sub-exams
The GED has four individual tests that measure a test-taker’s proficiency in the following fields:
- English Language Arts
- Social Studies
- Mathematics
- Science
These subtests are independent modules that can be completed separately and in any desired order.
The exam assesses proficiency at a level that equals that of graduating high school seniors. The GED exam must be taken on a computer.
The New Jersey high school equivalency credential is accepted by educational institutions and employers just like a regular high school diploma.

The GED Online Exam
In earlier times, taking the GED exam online was not an option. You had to personally come to one of New Jersey’s state-designated GED testing sites to take the test.

You can only take the GED test online if you first score passing results on the GED Ready test. There’s one GED Ready test for each GED subject, so that’s four in total, and they cost $7.99 each at GED.com.
