GED Classes Chicago, Illinois

This article lists all GED® class locations and test centers in the Chicago area. Illinois offers two options for high school equivalency (HSE) testing, the HiSET® and GED exams.

Both the GED and HiSET can be taken online or at state-certified testing centers. Read more below about online HSE testing.

With Online GED Classes from Onsego, getting your GED is not hard. Let us help you. Learn More.

HSE testing gives adults who never graduated high school the chance to obtain an equivalent diploma.

GED testing must be done computer-based while the HiSET exam can be taken on paper or on a computer.

GED testing is done through four independent tests in these academic fields: mathematics; social studies; science; and literacy.

You can take one of the four GED subtests (modules) at a time.

The HiSET exam has individual writing and reading tests, so five in total, that can also be taken separately.

The GED is fully computer-based while the HiSET is available on paper and on a computer.

In Illinois, test takers must also pass the state’s Constitution exam if they want to earn their HSE diploma but due to the dire circumstances this year, that requirement was waived.

Online GED and HiSET testing

Until recently, taking the High School Equivalency Test over the internet was not possible. It was simply not available online. To get hold of a GED diploma, you needed to show up at one of Illinois’ state-designated testing sites.

Well, that has changed! GED and HiSET testing is now also possible online with the use of an online proctor. For more detailed information, go to the online proctored GED test, and the online proctored HiSET test.
