Posted here are all GED® prep class sites and testing facilities in the Aurora, region.
Illinois is using several options for High School Equivalency (HSE) testing, the GED, TASC, and HiSET.
The HSE program gives people who never finished high school the chance to obtain an equivalent degree.
HSE testing occurs at a level that’s similar to what HS seniors must command upon graduation.
The GED exam has four individual sub-tests in literacy, math, science, and social studies. These tests must be passed within two years.
The TASC and HiSET have individual reading and writing test (so five overall) that cannot be taken separately.
There is no possibility to take the HiSET, TASC, or GED online.
In Illinois, applicants must also pass the state’s Constitution test.

The HSE exam – for who is it?
The Illinois HSE program offers the GED (General Education Development) exam, HiSET (High School Equivalency Test) and the TASC (Test Assessing Secondary Completion) for adults without a high school diploma, and the certificate that you acquire when you successfully complete the Illinois HSE test can be compared to a high school diploma and is accepted by practically all employers, government agencies and universities across the United States. Go to GED in Illinois for eligibility details and check also these free practice tests for the IL HSE Test.
The minimum score required to pass the GED exam is 145 for every test (so a minimum of 580 in total) on a scale running from 100 to 200. In early 2016, the minimum required score to pass the GED tests was adjusted downwards by 5 points to 145. This was done because research had demonstrated that it was set at a too high level. You can read the entire story in this website’s GED News posts. Online GED testing is NOT possible. Testing must be done at a certified testing site. To get optimally prepared, take advantage of this website’s entirely free GED video classes and practice tests. HiSET and TASC come with their own individual scoring systems.
Can I take the HSE exam online?
No, there is NO possibility to take the HiSET, TASC, or GED tests over the internet. You still need to come to a designated HSE testing center in person, and please don’t you forget to bring proper Identification documents to avoid disappointment.
*) Waubonsee Community College
Waubonsee Community College offers HSE preparation classes for adults who are 16 years and older who never finished their normal high school education. HSE classes prepare applicants to successfully take all four tests of the Illinois HSE exam.
Those who pass will be awarded the high school equivalency diploma. These HSE prep classes are available on all of the school’s four campuses, and also at many locations in their communities. The classes are offered in morning, afternoon, night, and weekend classes. The school’s ‘Bridge and HSE test Enhanced’ programs allow students to get ready for the HSE exam, while they can at the same time earn tuition-free college credits and professional training in healthcare and manufacturing.
HSE prep classes are available in Spanish as well, and the HSE exam is also available in Spanish. The school has bilingual teachers for these classes in Aurora and also for other sites in the community. Before partaking in HSE classes, Spanish speaking applicants must have an assessment test, so you can report to the Adult Education office in room 460 at the school’s Aurora Campus, to make an appointment.
If you want to enroll in English-language ABE or HSE classes, you must first come to an official HSE test information session, and these sessions are held six times per month. Just pick out the day and time that suits you best, you don’t need to make an appointment. To be able to sit for the Illinois HSE exam, candidates must register directly with Pearson-VUE at GED.com or by phone: 877-392-6433. This doesn’t count for the TASC and HiSET exams
