What is the GED?
The GED (General Education Development) exam is a set of four independent tests designed for adults who never completed high school.
The GED exam offers them the opportunity to earn an education credential that’s equivalent to a common high school diploma.
The GED diploma is widely regarded nationwide as equivalent to a high school diploma by government organizations, employers, and colleges and universities.
The GED exam comes with four tests on the academic subject fields of Science, Social Studies, Math, and English Language Literacy.
Passing the exam will generate far better employment options and allow for further academic education as the GED diploma is seen as equivalent to a high school diploma.
GED Passing Score
The GED scores are calibrated on a scoring scale from 100 to 200. The passing score on each of the four modules is 145. There are four GED scoring ranges:
- 100-144 is below passing
- 145-164 is the high school equivalency
- 165-174 is college-ready
- 175-200 is college-ready and will additionally result in up to 10 college credits, depending on the school and the subject.
Online GED Test
In the past, there was never any option to take the GED exam online. Your personal appearance at a state-approved testing facility was required, and that’s still the case in Connecticut.
In most states, that changed with the arrival of the online proctored GED test some years back, but Connecticut canceled the online testing option, where a proctor guides you through the process.
Perhaps you can take the GED exam online in a state that has no residency requirement. Go to ‘Introducing the online GED test to learn more.
You only qualify for taking the GED test online if you have reached passing scores on the GED Ready practice test.
There’s a GED Ready test for each of the four GED subject tests that you can buy on GED.com ($7.99 each). So, that’s an additional $32 on top of the regular GED testing fees that apply in your chosen state.
Free GED Ready Practice Tests
Students preparing for the GED exam with an Advantage Plan from Onsego receive four GED Ready vouchers at no charge. That comes with their plan, a fine $32 savings.
Onsego Advantage Plans are actually quite affordable. They are available from just $79 (the 6-month option).
All Advantage Plans come with free GED Ready test vouchers, full access to all study materials from the start, effective support courses, and more.
