Who is the GED for?

The GED (General Education Development) program was set up to help adults who never completed high school, with their efforts to obtain a comparable diploma. The certificate that you will get after completing the Connecticut GED test is approved and accepted as equivalent to a high school diploma by federal and state government bodies, recruiters, employers, and schools across the nation. To be able to take the tests, candidates must be at least 16 years old (16 and 17-year-olds must meet specific requirements – see a testing center). You cannot be enrolled in a school program and not already hold a secondary education credential.

Preparation is key

GED prep programs prepare applicants to take the four-part exam successfully and acquire the Connecticut GED diploma. The four tests are in the subject fields of science, social studies, math, and literacy. The GED is done fully on a computer, so lessons in basic keyboarding skills are included as well. These fundamental computer competencies will be needed in practically every modern workplace anyway. See also our free GED video lessons if you want to get all set fast.

GED registration

Teachers will also make you comfortable with the official GED website, GED.com where you also register for MyGED, an online portal that will guide you through the process. You can learn towards your GED exam through prep classes, via study books available at the community library or bookstore, or decide to take an online prep course like the one offered for free on this website.

Can I take the GED online?

No, you cannot. Although online preparing for the GED exam is perfectly okay, you still are required to come to a designated GED test site to take the tests. Please beware of fraudulent websites that claim otherwise. Their documents have no value whatsoever and will not be recognized by schools and employers!

Better career options

Registration must be done online at GED.com. You will have to make your account with MyGED where can schedule and pay for your test appointments. At this portal, you also will find a wealth of GED-related information, job market developments, and schools of higher learning. The GED diploma opens the door to a college education and leads to improved job options.
