The GED exam – what’s new

The former GED exam assessed applicants mainly on memorizing details and synthesizing all sorts of information. The 2014 GED exam focuses more on a student’s comprehension and understanding of specific subjects and in what way they are able to translate this understanding to real-world settings and situations.

Students are required to be able to analyze some literature, and they must be able to formulate arguments for essay questions. Here the sections of social studies and literacy are coming together. The new GED exam is done entirely on a computer, and many multiple-choice questions are dropped. A lot of the analytical and problem-solving questions in the parts mathematics and science are modeled according to real-world issues in the workplace. And let’s not forget that the passing score on each subtest dropped to 145.

Can I take the GED online?

No, you cannot take the GED online. You still need to come to a registered GED testing site in person to take the four tests face-to-face. You can take one test at a time, but you need to complete all tests within two years. Be aware of false websites that say they can offer the GED exam or the diploma via the internet, these sites are fraudulent!
