GED Classes Fresno, California

This post contains an overview of GED® classes in the Fresno, California, region. Testing sites are also shown.

The GED (General Education Development) exam is intended to give adults who have not completed high school another chance to get hold of a credential that is equivalent to a high school diploma. Visit GED in California for qualification requirements.

TASC and HiSET

If you would like to obtain your GED® certificate in Fresno, make sure you’ll become well prepared. California now not only offers the new computer-based GED exam, but it also allowed two nationally approved tests (TASC and HiSET) to assess its residents’ high school equivalent knowledge. These alternatives are more affordable than the GED and available both on paper and on a computer whereas the GED is only offered in a computer-based format.

GED: four tests

The GED exam contains four separate tests (modules) that don’t need to be done in one take. The entire GED battery must be completed within two years after the first registration. HiSET and TASC are not modular. Online HSE (high school equivalency) testing is NOT an option. You must come to an official testing center and sit for the GED, TASC, or HiSET exam in person.

GED passing score

The GED exam’s passing score was 150 on each subject test, but new insights learned that 145 was more realistic so it was lowered to that level. Now you will need at least 580 points in total to pass. For all details on the revised GED scoring table see our GED News posts. Please note that online GED testing is NOT possible. Documents acquired via the internet have no value and will not be acceptable for schools and employers!

Who is the GED for?

The GED program is developed for adults who dropped out of high school. The program offers them a chance to acquire a diploma that is equivalent to a high school diploma. The GED program was introduced in 1942 and is recognized throughout Canada and the United States, and successfully completing the GED set of four tests will result in a high school equivalency credential. The GED credential is the perfect stepping stone to get a college education and is widely used for getting a good job and career advancement.

GED and your future

The new GED exam (introduced in January 2014) consists of 4 individual tests in the subject fields mathematics, literacy, science and social studies. As the exam is done on a computer, candidates must command basic keyboarding and computer skills to be able to answer question included in the exam. You can find a lot of resources available if you want to sit for the GED exam with the objective to enroll in college or want to get a great career. Check your local bookstore or library for resources, and online learning can be a great option as well.
