GED Classes Bishop, California

This post lists all HSE (high school equivalency) prep facilities and testing centers in and around Bishop, California.

The HSE exam measures general knowledge and skills at a level that is expected from graduating high school seniors. To see if you qualify, check out the page GED in California.

Multiple options

California offers its residents multiple options to earn a HSE diploma, no longer is the GED® the only option anymore. Testing centers decide on which test(s) they use, so check this. They also may offer the TASC (by CTB/McGraw-Hill) and/or the HiSET (by ETS – Educational Testing Services). You may also want to see this page that links to all GED programs available in the USA.

Four GED tests

The GED exam has four separate subtests (modules) in the fields of Math, Science, Literacy, and Social Studies. You have two years to complete all four tests, no need to take the entire battery in one time. The HiSET and TASC come with five tests (not modular) as the Literacy section has two separate tests on writing and reading. Online HSE testing is not possible. Testing must be done at designated testing sites.

GED passing score

The HiSET and TASC are more affordable than the GED and are still available in both paper and computer formats. The passing score on each individual GED subtest was adjusted in early 2016. It was lowered from 150 to 145. A full report is available here in this GED news post.  HiSET and TASC have their own scoring methods.

HSE credential acceptance

The certificate or diploma that you will receive after passing the now computer-formatted California GED exam, or the HiSET or TASC test, is recognized and accepted as being equivalent to a normal high school diploma by recruiters, businesses, state and federal government agencies and colleges all across the United States.

HiSET and TASC exams

GED preparation classes and the GED exam cover basic subject areas that high school students must master upon graduation. Paper and pencil testing is no longer possible on the GED exam, but the state of California has decided that two alternative assessment methods, the TASC and the HiSET exams, can also be utilized by test centers. These test centers can decide by themselves which method(s) they will use. The TASC and the HiSET offer both paper and computer formats.

Get well prepared

High School Equivalency prep courses are offered at many schools and other facilities, and thanks to technological developments, online classes are better than ever before. If you want to study at home, go to your local library or bookstore for HiSET-TASC-GED prep books order them online.

How long you will need to prepare to get your HSE diploma varies from student to student.  It will depend on your knowledge and skills level when you enter a prep program, how often you come to prep classes, how much you will study outside of scheduled classes, and how quickly you will improve your skills.
