Online GED Classes

A simple and easy way of getting your GED diploma.

Learn fast, stay motivated, and pass your GED quickly.

So the GED exam is not the only option in California. The state also welcomed the HiSET exam for high school equivalency testing.

GED® and HiSET® testing can be done both online and at one of California’s state-approved testing sites.

The exams measure general knowledge at a similar level as what is expected from graduating high school seniors.

The GED exam has four separate subtests (independent modules) in these fields:

  • Math
  • Science
  • Language
  • Social Studies

The HiSET comes with five tests (not modular), as the Literacy section has two separate tests on writing and reading.

The HiSET can be done on a computer or on paper, whereas the GED is entirely computer-based.

You have the liberty to sit for the GED and HiSET modules when you’re ready to do so; no need to take it all in one session.

GED Passing Score

The passing score on each individual GED subtest is 145 on a grading score that runs from 100-200. You can learn all about GED scoring on this page. The HiSET exam is scored in its own way. On each of the five HiSET exams, you must reach at least 8 out of 20 points, and your overall score must be at least 45. Additionally, you’ll have to get at least a score of 2 (out of a possible 6) for your essay.

Online GED and HiSET Testing

Taking the GED and HiSET exams online is now possible as well. It used to be that the tests needed to be taken exclusively at designated testing sites, but that has changed.

To be eligible for taking the GED exam online, candidates must attain “green” scores on the GED Ready® practice test. For more information on the online HiSET-At-Home exam, check out this Online HiSET Testing article, and to get more informed about the online proctored (OP) GED exam, check out Online GED Testing.

GED Acceptance

The certificate or diploma that you will receive after passing the now computer-formatted California GED exam, or the HiSET, is recognized and accepted as being equivalent to a normal high school diploma by recruiters, businesses, state and federal government agencies, and colleges all across the United States.

HiSET and GED

The HiSET is slightly more affordable than the GED and is still available in both paper and computer formats. GED preparation classes and the GED exam cover basic subject areas that high school students must master upon graduation.

Paper and pencil testing is no longer possible on the GED exam, but the state of California has decided that the alternative HiSET assessment can also be used by test centers. Test centers can decide by themselves which method(s) they will use. The HiSET exam offers both paper and computer formats.
