The GED exam measures basic knowledge at a level that’s similar to what students must command upon graduation.

Testing is done through four separate subtests (modules) that can be taken separately.

The tests are in the academic fields of literacy, social studies, math, and science.

Online GED testing is now an option as well. Until recently, personal appearance at a state-designated testing site was required but that has changed. More details below.

The GED exam is entirely computer-based. Paper-based testing is a thing of the past.
