GED Classes Atlanta, Georgia

This page includes a complete overview of GED® prep facilities and testing sites in the Atlanta, Georgia, region.

The state of Georgia is using the new GED® exam for its high school equivalency testing. The exam is made up of 4 independent tests (modules) that are available in English and Spanish. For eligibility details go to GED in Georgia.

GED passing score

Passing the GED exam has become slightly easier. In early 2016, the required minimum score on each of the four tests was brought back from 150 to 145 points. You can read all about this great news in our GED News posts. There are 4 separate GED subtests (modules) and you can take one or more modules at a time and scores are good for two years from the moment of your first registration. The four testing subject areas are Social Studies, Literacy, Math, and Science.

GED acceptance

The GED diploma is recognized all over America and accepted by 96 percent of colleges, universities, and employers. The GED exam must be taken at specific GED test sites and is NOT available online. Internet sites that state something different are false! GED testing must be done at an official state-approved GED testing center. Check also these free practice tests for your GED exam.

GED Requirements in Georgia

GED – what’s new

Visit GED.com for more information and to sign up for MyGED, a start-to-finish tool for the new GED program. It is flexible, convenient and offers the support you need before and after the GED exam. It was built with you in mind; MyGED helps you take control of your life and your future.

The GED exam is now done exclusively on a computer, and your test results will be available right after testing. Registration and test scheduling must be done online and you now have the freedom to take one test (or module) when you are set to do so, no need to take everything in a row, and your test results are valid for two years.

The four GED tests

The four tests are on: Reasoning through Language Arts (Literacy, 2 hours, 30 minutes with a 10 minute break); Mathematical Reasoning (Math, 1 hour, 55 minutes); Science (1 hour, 30 minutes); and Social Studies (1 hour, 30 minutes), and the price tag is $40 per test section ($160 for the entire battery of four tests). You may take one test at a time, and scores are valid for two years.

GED passing score

The passing score is 145 or higher on each individual part of the exam (on a scale 100 to 200), so you need a score of at least 580 for the entire exam to receive your GED credential (averaging is not allowed). The score was reduced in early 2016. Read more here.

Can I take the GED exam online?

The answer to this question is NO. There is no such thing as an online GED exam. You will need to go to an official GED assessment center. If a website claims something different, that site is a scam! Don’t buy anything online. These ‘diplomas’ are worthless and employers and schools will not accept them. Don’t waste your dollars! Online preparation can be fine, though, so check out our free online video instruction.

*) Georgia Piedmont Technical College

Georgia Piedmont Technical College’s Georgia Piedmont Advantage (GPA) program is offering students the chance to attend the school’s General Education Development (GED) program while simultaneously take (some of) the school’s college courses and earn their associate’s degree. This concept is pretty new, as normally you must have your GED credential before you are allowed into college. Students partaking in this accelerated program will be able to prepare for their GED diploma while studying for their college degree.

The GED preparation classes will include assignments that are in line with the degree they’re studying for (“conceptualized learning”). The school offers seven programs for this accelerated track: Healthcare Technology, Early Childhood Education, Practical Nursing, Information Technology, Commercial Truck Driving, Diesel Mechanic, and Welding. Applicants now have the chance to get a college education at practically no cost at all. Great offer! For more information, you can contact the school’s Adult Education Department at 404-297-9522 (ext. 4000).
