It doesn’t matter when you left school.
The four GED® or five HiSET® subtests (modules) can be taken online or at state-approved HSE testing facilities.
The GED and HiSET programs offer adults who could not complete high school the opportunity to earn an equivalent degree.
There are four computer-based GED subtests that cover the academic fields of Math, Social Studies, Literacy, and Science.
The HiSET includes five subtests, as Literacy has individual reading and writing subtests.
The HiSET exam is available both on a computer and on paper, while the GED must be taken on a computer.
You have the option to sit for one or more of the HiSET or GED subtests at a time. No need to complete the exams in one take.
Until recently, to earn your GED credential, you had to take the four tests at an official GED test center, as online testing was not available.
That has changed, however, with the introduction of an online GED and HiSET testing format. More information can be found at the bottom of this page.

Georgia GED Practice TestOnline Proctored GED And HiSET Testing Options
To take the GED exam, you needed to come to a state-designated GED testing facility. There was simply no online option to sit for the GED exam. If you were looking to earn your Georgia GED credential, you had to show up personally to take and pass the GED subtests.
Now that Georgia has also introduced the HiSET exam and new online proctored GED and HiSET testing formats have been introduced, that has changed. When using this online testing format, a proctor guides you through the process and sees if all is happening in line with strict regulations.

The 4 GED Subtests
GED testing includes four independent subtests that can be taken one at a time. In Georgia, the subtests are $40 each, or $160 for the entire GED battery, when taken at a test center. Online testing is more expensive. You are allowed the following time frames to deal with the subtests:
- Reasoning through Language Arts (Literacy): 150 minutes (including a short break)
- Mathematical Reasoning: 115 minutes
- Social Studies: 70 minutes
- Science: 90 minutes
