The exams are for adult learners who never finished high school and offer them the chance to earn an equivalent degree.
There are four independent GED subject tests (modules) in the fields of
- Math
- Language
- Social Studies
- Science
The HiSET exam has individual Literacy Reading and Writing subtests, so five in total.
You can take one or more of the four GED or five HiSET modules when you’re well prepared. There’s no need to take the entire GED or HiSET battery in one session.

Online GED and HiSET Test-Taking Option
Until recently, taking the Georgia GED exam could only be done at a state-designated GED testing facility. There just was no online option to sit for the exam. You needed to show up in person if you wanted to secure your GED diploma after you passed the four GED subject tests.
Well, all of this has now changed with the introduction of a new, online, proctored GED testing format, and Georgia also welcomed the HiSET exam for HSE testing. When taking the GED or HiSET test online, an online proctor helps you with the test-taking process, and he also checks whether all happens in line with strict regulations.
To learn more, go to ‘Introducing the online GED test’ for information about the online GED exam, and for more details about the online HiSET exam, <- check out this page.

The Hope Grant
GED or HiSET graduates in Georgia may qualify to receive a $500 HOPE GED Grant. They can use this grant for their post-secondary academic education in Georgia.
Georgia’s HOPE GED Grant may be offered to students who acquired their GED (high school equivalency) diploma via Georgia’s Technical College System.
The HOPE GED Grant provides a one-time $500 award that must be used for tuition and books or toward other educational costs at selected public technical colleges or at selected public and private colleges or universities.
There is no requirement for full-time enrollment, but students need to have used their HOPE GED Grant within two years after they received their GED diploma. A $200 HOPE Grant may also be available to cover the cost of taking the GED or HiSET exam.
