Four Independent GED Sub-exams
The GED exam has four independent tests (modules) assessing a test taker’s knowledge of these academic subjects:
- Mathematics
- Science
- Language Arts
- Social Studies
You have the option to take one (or more) of the four GED modules at a time. There’s no requirement to sit for the entire GED battery in one testing session.
The GED assessment measures basic knowledge at a level typically expected of graduating high school seniors.

GED Passing Score
Your GED results are calibrated on a scale running from 100 to 200. The passing score on each of the four independent GED modules is 145. There is NO averaging, so you’ll need to attain this score on each of the four tests. There are four GED scoring ranges:
- Below passing scores: 100-144
- High school equivalent scores: 145-164
- College-ready scores: 165-174
- College-ready + credit scores: 175-200
Online GED Testing
In earlier days, taking the GED test online was never an option. To earn your GED diploma, you needed to come in person to a state-approved GED testing center and pass four GED subtests.
With the introduction of the online GED test some years back, that changed in many states, but Florida has decided to suspend the online version of the GED exam.
Visit ‘Introducing the online GED test’ to learn more about the online GED testing process.
When taking the GED exam online in a state that doesn’t have any residency requirements, an online proctor will guide you through the test-taking process.
Bear in mind, however, that to qualify for online GED testing, you must have achieved passing scores on the GED Ready test. In total, there are four of these practice tests: one for each GED subtest.
The GED Ready test is available on GED.com for $7.99. Onsego students enrolled in an Advantage Plan will receive four GED Ready Vouchers at no charge. That’s part of their Advantage Plan – a fantastic $32 value!
Onsego’s Advantage Plans are already available at $79 for the 6-month access option. This includes many free supportive courses and the four GED Ready Vouchers.
