The Modular GED and HiSET
The GED includes four separate subtests (independent modules) in these academic sections:
- English Language Literacy
- Mathematics
- Science
- Social Studies
You can take each GED subtest (module) individually and in the order of your choice. There’s no need to complete the entire battery in one take.
The HiSET exam includes five tests (separate reading and writing tests) that can be taken separately, too.
The GED is entirely computerized, whereas the HiSET is available on paper and on a computer.

Online GED and HiSET Testing
It used to be that students seeking their high school equivalency diploma had to appear in person at official Oklahoma testing centers. Online testing simply didn’t exist.
But a few years ago, we saw the launch of HiSET and GED online proctored testing options, so that changed in most states.
To read all about the online proctored HiSET exam, visit this page: ‘Launching the online HiSET test.’
For more detailed information about the online GED test, visit: ‘The online proctored GED testing.’
If you want to qualify for the online GED exam, you first must reach sufficient results (scores in the ‘green’ zone) on the GED Ready practice test.
For each GED sub-exam, there’s a practice test to pass first, so that’s four overall, and they cost $7.99 each on the GED.com website, for a total of $32.
If you choose to learn for your GED exam with an Onsego Advantage Plan, you will receive four GED Ready vouchers included in your plan, a fine $32 value bonus!
Advantage Plans from Onsego are available from $79 for the 6-month option. All Advantage Plans include unrestricted access to all lessons from day 1, lots of valuable support courses, and 4 free GED Ready vouchers.
