Is joining the army possible with a GED?

Who is the GED test for?

The GED (General Education Development) tests are developed for adults who never completed high school, and the GED diploma is recognized as equivalent to a high school diploma. All over the U.S., employers, official institutions and colleges are accepting the GED certificate just like a regular high school diploma. Go to GED in South Dakota for qualification requirements, and check also this link to all GED prep facilities in the U.S.

Four independent GED tests

The GED test examines basic knowledge that students must know as they graduate from high school, and the subjects explained in GED preparation classes are of course the same topics that the GED test examines: literacy, math, science, and social studies. You must deal with the four tests within two years.

GED passing score

The GED exam also includes a new testing score method. Out of a possible 200 points per test, you are required to reach at least 145 points. The GED passing requirements were adjusted at the beginning of 2016 and lowered to 145. Detailed information can be found on this GED Pass Score News Page.

Is there an online GED exam?

Though the new GED testing method is entirely computer-based, it is not possible to take the exam over the internet. Preparing for the exam online is perfectly fine, but you still must report to a testing site in person, bringing a valid photo ID.

Preparation is crucial

Preparation has become more crucial than ever before. Partaking in GED preparation classes has always been a good idea, and listed above are facilities where you can get all set, but there are also many really good online preparation courses (take a close look at our post about online GED prep classes – reviews) where you find a wealth of information on online GED courses.

*) Hovland Learning Center

You can find the Hovland Learning Center in the Mickelson Center. The organization provides a learning lab and several educational classes to support adult learners in meeting their individual goals. The Hovland Learning Center features highly qualified and committed instructors who are trained to deliver adult education.

The Center offers, among other classes, free GED prep classes that are self-paced and lead to the GED examination. Successful completion of the 4 GED tests (Math, Social Studies, Science, and Literacy) results in the GED diploma, a high school diploma equivalent credential that ensures better job options and allows for higher education (university, college, training school, vocational school).
