The GED test can be taken online from the comfort of your home or at state-certified testing centers.

The GED diploma allows for a college or university education and will definitely enhance employment options.

The test comes with four independent, separate tests that measure proficiency in

  • English Language
  • Math
  • Science
  • Social Studies

You can take these subtests one at a time. You are not required to complete the entire GED® battery in one take.

Until recently, taking the GED test online was no option. You needed to come to one of South Dakota’s testing centers and take the four subtests in person.

Your Future

The four GED (General Educational Development) tests offer South Dakota residents the chance to acquire a high school equivalency credential. This document is recognized as an important instrument for better employment opportunities, job advancement, continued academic education and training, and financial success.

The South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation acknowledges the value of this educational milestone and offers the GED program to support those adults who have not completed their four years of high school education.

In South Dakota, Each of the four GED tests costs $50 (so $200 for the entire battery), which you need to pay for at the time of registration. This applies to both online and on-site testing. You can take and pay for one of the four subtests at a time. Candidates are required to score at least 145 points (out of a possible 200) on each of the four GED subtests to pass the GED exam.
