Four Modular GED Exams
The GED includes four independent, modular subtests that assess a test-taker’s knowledge in these subject fields:
- Social Studies
- Science
- English Language Literacy
- Math
You can take a subject test once you are sufficiently prepared, and you can choose the order that works best for you. You don’t have to complete everything in one take.
The exam assesses skills and knowledge at a level comparable to that of high school seniors upon graduation.

Online Proctored GED Testing
In earlier days, the GED exam was not offered online. To earn a GED, you were required to report in person to one of South Dakota’s state-designated GED testing facilities.
A few years back, the launch of the online proctored (OP) GED exam changed that. For more details about this interesting development, go to this page: ‘The online proctored GED exam.’
To be able to take the GED exam online, you are required to first attain passing scores (in the ‘green’ range) on the official practice test by GED Testing Service GED Ready.
In total, you need to take four of these tests (one per GED sub-exam) that cost $7.99 on the GED.com website. So, that will add an extra $32 to your overall testing cost.
If you study for your GED with an Advantage Plan from Onsego, you get four vouchers for the GED Ready test at no extra cost. That’s part of your plan, a fine $32 bonus.
All Onsego Advantage Plans include free GED Ready vouchers, unrestricted access to the full course from the start, and more highly useful extras.
There is already an Onsego Advantage Plan for $79, the six-month plan, including the free vouchers, unrestricted access, and lots of extras.
