GED Classes Simi Valley, California

Listed on this page are all GED® prep sites and test centers in the Simi Valley region.

California uses several options for HSE (high school equivalency) testing, the GED, TASC, and HiSET.

The GED is fully computer-based whereas the HiSET and TASC exams are available on-paper and on-computer.

The California HSE program is for adults who never completed high school and provides the chance to earn an equivalent degree.

The level at which the three exams measure proficiency and competencies compares to that of graduating high school students.

The GED consists of four modules that must be completed within two years. The subtests are in literacy, math, science, and social studies.

The HiSET and TASC have five subtests (that can also be taken separately) in literacy reading, literacy writing, math, science, and social studies.

How to write the GED Essay

No online testing

To take the HSE examination you will need to show up in person at a designated test site. Online GED, HiSET, or TASC testing is NO option. Internet sites that claim anything different are false!

The High School Equivalency Diploma

The certificate that is given to you after successfully completing the California GED, HiSET, or TASC exam is recognized and accepted nationwide as comparable to a high school diploma by government agencies, recruiters, and colleges. The high school equivalency test checks essential knowledge and skills that high school students must understand as they graduate. The GED, HiSET, and TASC tests are not available online, you will have to go to a designated GED testing site.

GED registration and cost

The GED exam costs in California $140 for all four tests ($35 per individual test or module). Registration can be done at the GED organization’s website, or by calling 1-877-392-6433. You can visit to learn about all possible details regarding the GED program, and when you sign up at MyGED you will be guided through every step on the way to your GED diploma. The HiSET and TASC tests are cheaper, and also available in a paper-based version.

GED alternatives TASC and HiSET

The HiSET and TASC examinations also measure the high school equivalency of California residents but are considerably cheaper than the GED exam. Additionally, will these two alternatives for a few years be available on computer and in a paper-based format as well, and include five testing fields as the literacy section is split up in a writing and a reading test.

TASC passing score: on each subtest, you must score in the 500-800 range and your score on the essay part must be between 2 and 8. HiSET passing requirements: on all five tests you must attain between 8 and 20 points, on the essay section between 2 and 6, and the total score needs to be between 45 and 100.

The GED score is measured on a 100-200 scale. 145-164 equals HS equivalency; 165-174 indicates the test taker is college-ready; and if the score is in the 175-200 range, college credits will be awarded.

*) Simi Valley Adult School and Career Institute

At the Simi Valley Adult School and Career Institute, you attend preparation classes ($40 for a 6-month period of test preparation and practice testing including tutoring. Registration is in the counseling office, cash only). Or you can register at the GED organization’s website

The Simi Valley Adult School and Career Institute are accredited by WASC (The Western Association of Schools and Colleges), the major accrediting agency for public and private institutions of (higher) education in the western U.S. The school actually provides classes that are unlike usual adult education programs. Most Californian adult schools do not include the occupational educational programs that the Simi Valley school does. The school offers the most impressive number of dental and medical training programs of all adult education schools in California.

At the majority of the school’s occupational training programs (for example all computer software courses and machinist and welder training programs) students may enroll whenever they want through the year, but when an open-entry class has reached its full capacity, students will be put on a waiting list. The school additionally offers GED preparation classes and is an official GED testing site.

Oxnard Adult Education provides GED prep classes for those adults who want to earn their high school equivalency certificate/GED diploma. The GED exam is fully computer-based, and the questions of the four tests vary in difficulty and come with multiple-choice, short answer, and essay-style answering.
