What’s on the GED and HiSET Exams

There are four individual GED subtests measuring a candidate’s knowledge of

  • Math (Mathematical Reasoning)
  • Social Studies
  • Literacy (Reasoning through Language Arts)
  • Science

HiSET testing comes with separate writing and reading subtests, so five in total. You have the option to sit for the four GED or five HiSET subtests (independent modules), one or more at a time, and in any order.

The GED and HiSET exams measure your academic proficiency at a level that compares to that of high school graduates.

GED and HiSET Online Testing

In the past, to take the GED or HiSET test, you had to appear at a state-designated HSE (High School Equivalency) testing site. Online testing was just not offered. However, the introduction of online GED and HiSET test-taking options has changed all that.

Students who take the online GED or HiSET testing option will be paired with an online proctor who assists them throughout the entire process and ensures that all steps are completed in accordance with the regulations.

If you want to take the GED exam online, you are required to first attain satisfactory results on the official GED Ready test. This applies to all four GED subtests. So you’ll have to pass four GED Ready practice tests in total. Each GED Ready test is $7.99 on GED.com, so that’s $32 in total.

Onsego students working toward their GED diploma with one of Onsego’s Advantage Plans don’t have to worry about buying GED Ready tests. The Advantage Plans all come with four GED Ready vouchers – a fantastic $32 value bonus!

Visit this article: ‘The online GED test’ to learn more about the online GED test and to get more information about the online “HiSET-At-Home” test, <- go to this page.
