This article posts all GED prep class locations and testing facilities in the Raleigh region. North Carolina offers two options for high school equivalency testing: the HiSET and GED.
The HiSET and GED exams are offered online and at state-certified test centers. To learn more about the newly launched HiSET and GED online proctored exams, check the bottom of this page.
The assessments are for individuals who did not finish high school and give them a chance to earn an equivalent degree.
The GED is fully computerized, whereas the HiSET can be done on paper or on a computer.
This website provides free GED practice tests and online GED classes so you can learn if studying with an online course may fit you well.
There are students who perform better if they prepare for their GED test with an instructor at one of the below-listed sites, while for others, an online program is better.

If learning with an online program is right for you, we recommend you continue with Onsego GED Prep, an online course that GED Testing Service states is “Fully GED Test-Aligned.”
GED testing is done through four separate modules (subtests) that cover:
- English Language Literacy
- Science
- Math
- Social Studies
These modules may be taken one at a time. This counts for the HiSET as well.
The HiSET exam includes five subtests (Literacy has individual writing and reading tests).

Welcoming Online GED and HiSET Testing
In earlier days, online GED or HiSET testing was never possible. To secure your high school equivalency (HSE) credential, you were required to show up in person at an official North Carolina HSE testing facility.
The recent arrival of both online GED and HiSET tests has changed this, though. To learn all about the recently launched online proctored GED testing option, go to The online GED test, and to read all about the newly introduced online HiSET option, go to The online HiSET exam.
