The exams give students who never finished high school the chance to earn an equivalent credential.

The GED® has four independent tests (modules) in social studies, science, literacy, and math that may be completed separately.

The HiSET® comes with five tests (literacy has individual writing and reading tests) that are offered separately as well.

HiSET testing is offered both on paper and on a computer, while the GED is totally computer-formatted.

In the past, online testing was not possible. Applicants were required to come to an official North Carolina testing site in person.

Recent developments, however, have changed all of this with the arrival of online HiSET and GED testing options. Read more below.

Introducing HiSET And GED Online Tests

In recent days, online GED or HiSET testing was never possible online. If you wanted to secure a North Carolina HSE credential, you had to come in person to one of the state’s official HSE testing centers.

The arrival of online HiSET and GED testing options, however, has changed this. If you want to learn more about online GED testing, check out this page: Welcoming the online GED test, and for information about the recently launched online HiSET exam, visit this page: Welcoming the online HiSET exam.
