HiSET and GED testing can be done both online and at certified NC testing centers.

It doesn’t matter when you left school.
The exams offer persons who never completed high school one more chance to obtain an equivalent diploma.
Both assessments measure basic competencies and knowledge at a level that can be expected of graduating H.S. students.
The GED® has four independent subtests in math, science, literacy, and social studies that may be completed one subtest at a time.
The HiSET® includes individual writing and reading tests, so five in total, that can be taken separately, too.
The HiSET exam is offered in both paper-based and computer-based formats, while the GED is fully computerized.
In the past, online GED or HiSET testing was never an option. Testing needed to be done at an official North Carolina HSE testing site.
The recent launch of both GED and HiSET online proctored tests, however, has changed this. Read more below.

Welcoming Online HiSET And GED Testing Options
Taking the HiSET or GED test was never possible over the Internet. If you wanted to secure your North Carolina HSE (high school equivalency) diploma, you had to show up in person at one of the state’s designated HSE test centers.
Now, that has changed with the launch of both online proctored HiSET and GED testing options. To get informed about the recently launched online GED exam, check out this article: Welcoming the online GED test, and if you want to learn more about online HiSET testing, visit Introducing the online HiSET exam.
