This page includes an overview of all GED® prep class options and testing sites in the Peoria region.
Illinois uses three options for HSE (High School Equivalency) testing, the GED, TASC, and HiSET.
The HSE test gives persons who didn’t graduate high school another option to obtain an equivalent degree.
Testing takes place at a comparable level as what HS seniors must know upon graduation.
The GED must be taken entirely on a computer and includes four tests in literacy, social studies, math, and science.
You are given two years to deal with all four GED subtests. The HiSET and TASC subtests are also modular and are offered on-paper and on-computer.
The HiSET and TASC exams have five tests. The section Literacy comes with separate English Reading and English Writing tests.
Online HSE testing is not an option. Testing needs to be done at an official Illinois HSE test center.
In Illinois, test takers must also pass the Illinois Constitution Exam.

The four GED tests
The GED exam is divided into four separate tests on Literacy, Math, Science, and Social Studies, and candidates have the choice to take one test at a time, there is no need to take everything at once. Scores count for two years from the time of the first registration.
GED passing score
Test results are measured on a scale of 100 to 200. The required score on each test was 150, so you needed at least to reach a score of 600 overall. A few years way back, this was lowered to 145 (580 overall) because the bar was raised too high when the new GED exam was rolled out. HiSET and TASC have their own individual scoring methods.
No online GED, TASC, or HiSET testing
Online GED, TASC, or HiSET testing is not an option. You are required to show up at a state-approved HSE test site, bring proper identification, and take the four tests in person. Websites trying to make you believe that online testing or an ‘online GED diploma’ is possible, are run by con artists who are only trying to get to your money. Their so-called ‘diplomas’ have no value and will never be accepted by schools or employers.
