This page contains an overview of all GED prep class locations and testing centers in the Galesburg region. Illinois is using two options for High School Equivalency testing, the GED and HiSET.
The GED and HiSET are available online and at state-designated test centers. Read more below about online testing.
Both exams assess proficiency at the same level that can be expected of graduating HS seniors.
The GED® is fully computer-formatted and contains four separate subtests (modules) in literacy, social studies, science, and math.
You have the option to complete the four GED modules (subtests) one by one.
The HiSET® alternative includes five testing sections (separate language writing and language reading tests) that are also modular.
The HiSET can be taken both on paper and on a computer, whereas the GED is fully computerized.
In Illinois, applicants must also pass a Constitution Test.

Online GED, HiSET Exams
Until recently, taking the GED or HiSET exam online was not possible. The tests were simply not offered over the internet. If you wished to get hold of your high school equivalency diploma, you needed to appear at a state-designated testing site and sit for the tests in person.
Fortunately, that has now changed. Both the GED and the HiSET have introduced online options. For detailed information, go to these posts: ‘The online GED test,’ and for HiSET information, go to ‘The HiSET at Home test.’
Constitution Test
GED testers looking to earn their High School Equivalency Certificates in Illinois must also take and pass the state’s Constitution Test in addition to passing the HiSET or GED exam. The Illinois Constitution Test is administered at many schools and test centers, and there’s no fee associated with the test.
