GED Classes Springfield, Illinois

Last Updated on May 11, 2024.

Posted here are all GED preparatory class locations and testing facilities in the Springfield area. Illinois is offering two options for high school equivalency testing: the HiSET and GED.

Both tests are offered online and at official testing centers. Check below for more details about the online HiSET and GED tests.

The tests give persons who never graduated from high school the chance to acquire an equivalent diploma.

GED® testing involves four subtests that cover the academic subjects of

  • Math
  • Social Studies
  • Language
  • Science

These modules (independent subtests) can be completed one (or more) at a time and in the order you wish.

The HiSET exam includes individual writing and reading tests (so five overall) that can also be taken separately.

Online GED and HiSET Tests

Until recently, taking one of the Illinois high school equivalency tests (HiSET, GED) over the Internet was not possible. There was just no online testing available. To secure your Illinois HSE (High School Equivalency) diploma, you had to show up in person at an official test center.

But that has now changed. Both the HiSET and GED have recently introduced an online version that uses an online proctor. You can read more here: The online GED test, and for information about the HiSET exam, check this page: The HiSET-At-Home exam.

Constitution Test

GED and HiSET candidates must also provide proof they took and passed the Illinois Constitution test. There’s no charge for taking this Constitution Test.

It is the purpose of the GED and HiSET exams to measure the educational development and standards of adults who didn’t complete their regular high school curriculum. Adults who have earned their equivalency credentials qualify for education in college or university and better employment or job promotion.

Individuals 18 years of age and older qualify for taking the HiSET or GED exam if they don’t hold a common high school credential and are not currently signed up for another school program. The program is only open to Illinois residents.

Students 17 years old may also qualify if they submit a withdrawal letter signed by an official from the last school they were enrolled in.
