The GED and HiSET Subtests
The GED comes with four modules (independent subtests) measuring a test-taker’s skills and knowledge of these subjects:
- Math
- English Language
- Science
- Social Studies
These modules may be taken separately and in any order.
The HiSET exam has five tests because it includes separate reading and writing tests. These modules may be taken independently as well.
The GED exam is fully computerized, while the HiSET exam is available both on a computer and in a paper-based format.

Online GED and HiSET Testing
In earlier days, there was no option to take the GED or HiSET exam online. You needed to show up at one of Mississippi’s official test locations.
But some years ago, the HiSET and GED exams became available online as well.
To read more about the online HiSET test, check out the HiSET exam online.
To learn all about the online GED testing option, go to the online GED test.
If you want to take the GED exam online, you must first attain passing scores on the GED Ready test, and there’s a corresponding test for each GED subtest.
These GED Ready tests cost $7.99 each on GED.com, so that’s an additional$32 to your overall GED testing costs.
Onsego students using an Advantage Plan for their preparation do not have to buy the GED Ready practice tests because their plan comes with four free GED Ready Vouchers – a great $32 value bonus.
Onsego’s Advantage Plans are available from $79 (for the 6-month option), and that’s including the four free GED Ready Vouchers, full access to all study resources and materials from the beginning, top-rated support courses, and more.
Do we have to adjust/update this information? Should we add or unlist a location? Please inform us here.
