Is it possible to join the army with a GED?

Who can take the GED exam?

The GED program contains an examination made up of four independent tests and, upon successful completion, test-takers will obtain the GED diploma, a secondary education credential that is seen and accepted as equivalent to a regular high school diploma. The program is open to adult learners without a high school diploma, who are at least 18 years of age, and who are not enrolled in another educational course. Applicants 16 or 17 can also qualify, but they must meet strict criteria, such as parental consent and official withdrawal documents from their last school.

The HSE diploma is your ticket to continue your education at college or university and the degree will definitely lead to better job options. For qualification requirements go to GED in Virginia and take also a close look at this page that links to all GED prep facilities and testing centers across the US.

Is there online GED testing?

Online GED testing is NOT possible. Internet sites that ventilate different ideas are fraudulent. You must personally report to a designated GED testing site and take (one of) the tests at the center. Documents obtained over the internet are worthless and will not be acceptable for colleges, universities, or employers.

GED passing score

The new GED exam is measured in points on a 100 to 200 scale. For each of the four tests, you are required to attain at least 145 points, so a total minimum score of 580 points is needed. 145-164: high school equivalency score; 165-174: college-ready score; 175-200: college-ready plus college credit score. Just two years after the new GED introduction, the passing score was adjusted to 145. Detailed information is available in this GED Scoring News post.

*) Bedford Science and Technology Center

Students in Bedford County have a great option to improve their employment outlook and earn their ticket to college or university. Bedford Science and Technology Center offers the  GED Fast Track program. This program is offered at the Bedford Science and Technology Center and also at Lake Christian Ministries in Moneta.

For the period of six weeks these Fast Track classes meet twice each week, and each day, students attend lessons for five hours. The school is actually the only organization in Central Virginia that offers an accelerated program like this one.

It is the purpose of this Fast Track GED program to guide students who are pretty close to earning their GED diploma. The program focuses on teaching the required knowledge and skills needed to become successful on the exam. The program is funded via federal and state grants that are specifically meant for GED programs.

Further funding was provided by Bedford County Schools and by Central Virginia’s Adult Continuing Education. All applicants need to go through an orientation, registration and screening session before they will be admitted into the program. The school offers all study materials and has very committed and well-trained teachers.
