The Four GED Tests
The exam has four individual subtests that cover these subject areas:
- English Language Arts
- Social Studies
- Science
- Mathematics
You can write these four modules one at a time, in any order you prefer. They don’t need to be taken in one session.
GED testing is entirely computer-based, and the four subtests can be taken in English or Spanish.
The GED exam is administered at a level comparable to the knowledge required for high school graduation.

Online Proctored GED Testing
In the past, the GED exam had to be taken in person at one of Texas’s state-approved High School Equivalency test locations. There simply was never an online GED test.
A few years back, however, this changed as we witnessed the launch of the online proctored GED test.
To learn more about the online proctored GED test-taking option, see this page: The online proctored GED test.
To qualify for the online GED exam, you must first reach passing scores on the GED Ready practice test.
For each of the four GED subtests, there’s one of these practice tests, for a total of four, an additional $32 on top of the testing fees.
Onsego Advantage students receive four GED Ready vouchers at no cost, as that is included in their plan.
