It doesn’t matter when you left school.

The HiSET exam, just like the GED®, measures knowledge at a level that compares to that of high school students upon graduation.

There are five separate subtests in the HiSET exam that cover the fields of

  • English Writing
  • English Reading
  • Social Studies
  • Mathematics
  • Science

The GED exam combines English Reading and English Writing into one Language Arts subtest, so there are four separate GED subject tests.

The minimum GED score is 145 out of 200 on each subtest. Averaging is no option, so your total GED score must be at least 580 overall.

Online GED Classes

A simple and easy way of getting your GED diploma.

The minimum score on each of the five HiSET subtests is 8 (out of 20), your overall score must be at least 45, and your essay result can’t be lower than two (out of six).

Online HiSET or GED testing is also possible. You can show up at a state-designated test center and sit for the test in person or take the HiSET-At-Home or Online Proctored GED exam if you qualify.

GED Scoring

The four GED modules (independent sub-exams) are calibrated on a 100-200 scoring scale. There are four ranges:

  • 100-144 = below passing GED scores
  • 145-164 = high school equivalent GED scores
  • 165-174 = college-ready GED scores
  • 175-200 = college-ready plus college credit GED scores
