Lowered GED score
The GED program offers adults without a high school diploma the chance to acquire a document that is equivalent to a high school diploma and regarded as such by employers and higher education organizations. The GED organization reduced the passing score in January 2016 from 150 to 145, and for all relevant information please go to this GED News page. TASC and HiSET are scored differently.
Four GED subtests
The GED exam comes with four separate subtests on the subject areas of math, science, literacy, and social studies. You can take these four subtests one by one at the time you feel optimally prepared. No need to do it all in a row and you are allowed two years to complete all four tests.

Online obtained documents are worthless
Please don’t get tricked into practices of con websites trying to sell you their “GED diploma” over the internet. These documents are worthless. Online testing for the GED exam is not possible, and these fraudulent sites are only after your money. You must come to an official testing center if you want to get hold of your GED diploma!
The state also offers two alternatives, TASC and HiSET, for high school equivalency testing which will be available on paper as well for several years to come. Testing centers can decide which of the three (or all) testing systems they will use, so contact a testing site near you for details. Check also our free practice tests for your GED exam.
Registration & cost
Registration for the GED tests must be done online at GED.com, and when you sign up with MyGED you can benefit from a great portal that will inform you on all processes that lead to your GED diploma, and also about schools and their academic programs, and job market options and developments.
The cost for the GED exam is $140 for all four tests ($35 per test), and you now have the option to take one test whenever you are ready, no need to do it all at one time. You will need to have a major credit/debit card, but if that’s a problem you can purchase vouchers, just check with your testing center. TASC and HiSET are cheaper.

*) Escondido Adult School
Escondido Adult School’s programs have been at the service of Escondido and surroundings since 1968. The adult school is striving to meet educational and vocational requirements of community members via the school’s adult education classes, Regional Occupational Programs, and community education courses. Every year, some 10,000 students sign up for the school’s classes that are provided at 27 locations in the city. The school employs 87 committed instructors and 36 support employees. All applicants are required to take the GED exam on a computer in the school’s new PearsonVue GED testing lab.
Now the school also offers an alternative to the GED exam as a way to earn a high school equivalency certificate. In 2014, the state approved two alternative options (the HiSET from ETS – Educational Testing Service – and the TASC – by McGraw-Hill) for this purpose. The Escondido Adult School is actually the only North County Adult Education Center that offers the HiSET exam (at the school’s new computer-based HiSET testing lab).
