Online GED and HiSET
Until recently, online HiSET or GED testing was not an option. That was simply not available. If you wished to earn your high school equivalency degree, you had to show up at an official Illinois test site.
However, that has changed. The GED and HiSET are now also available in an online version using a proctor. To learn more, go to these pages: The online GED test and for HiSET information, check out The online HiSET exam.
GED Price
In Illinois, the regular GED cost is $36 per separate test, but the state offers the GED test FOR FREE! In addition, you also need to pass a constitution test. The GED and HiSET were already available at a discounted rate in Illinois.
The regular fee for online GED testing is just as expensive, $36 per module, or $144 for the entire GED battery. To take the test online, you’ll also have to add $28 because you must first pass four GED Ready practice tests ($6.99 each) before you qualify for online testing. So that’ll add up to $172! But again, you can take the GED test for free in Illinois.
The Four GED Tests
If you want to get hold of your GED diploma, be sure to sit online or appear at a state-approved GED testing site well-prepared. The exam breakdown is as follows:
- Language Arts 150 minutes, including a student break (10 minutes)
- Mathematics 115 minutes
- Science 90 minutes
- Social Studies 70 minutes
GED preparation classes are available at no cost all over Illinois, and classes in your region are listed above. The GED is totally ‘digitalized,’ and you can register online by going to the online portal MyGED at GED.com.
A great feature of the GED program is that you can schedule (and pay for) 1 test at a time if you wish. You can also take all four tests in one day if you manage to find a test center with hours that can accommodate that.
