GED cost & passing score
The cost to take the four tests is $120 ($30 per module), and you do not need to be a Virginia resident to be able to take the GED exam in the state. Applicants must have at least have a score of 145 on each individual test (meaning an overall minimum of 580 points).
The GED exam
The GED exam measures the skills and knowledge of adult applicants in four academic fields at the level of high school graduates. The GED exam is used for issuing Virginia’s high school equivalency credential which is accepted all across America. More than 96 percent of colleges, universities, and employers recognize the GED credential as equivalent to the standard high school degree.
The first GED exam was administered in the 194o’s to help returning American World War II military personnel to complete their high school education and get back into regular civilian life and get good employment.
Later, the GED program was extended to help also civilians and non-veteran adult learners. Now, most states have adopted the Common Core Standards, and therefore GED Testing Services (the developing organization) has upgraded the GED exam’s content in accordance with these standards to meet modern industry’s requirements and higher education’s expectations.
The most recent version of the GED exam not only provides the chance to acquire a secondary school credential, but it also assesses applicants’ career- and college-readiness level. Do you qualify for the GED exam?
The General Education Development (GED) exam is taken entirely on a computer, the exam is no longer offered on paper. The GED program is intended primarily for men and women who, for any reason, missed the regular chance to earn their high school diploma, and is open to those adults who don’t have a secondary credential, who are not enrolled in another school program, and who are no younger than 16 (although there are restrictions for 16 and 17-year-olds).
The GED exam is computer-based and includes four tests, each of which is designed to assess competencies and concepts at a level comparable to that after four years of standard high school education. These four tests correspond to the general curriculum of most high schools and determine candidates’ knowledge in the areas of Social Studies, Science, Literacy, and Mathematics.
One more chance
The GED exam is developed by the American Council on Education together with Pearson Vue to give individuals who did not complete high school another chance to earn a diploma that’s recognized as equivalent to a high school diploma, and here’s also a link to all GED schools in America. The GED credential is recognized as equivalent to a high school diploma and accepted as such by employers and academic institutions throughout the United States.

Engineer – Education
To become an engineer, you need to have a high school or GED diploma, followed by at least a bachelor’s degree, and holding specialist certification improves promotion chances into management positions. Practical experience is highly valued, and those holding further certification are most sought after. In practically all states, engineers are required to be licensed.
There are many engineering specializations. Here we will give short descriptions including average salaries of the best-known directions. Bear in mind that not all creative types are suited to get into the world of engineering.
Mechanical engineers are working in a wide variety of settings. It is actually one of the broadest disciplines within the world of engineering. They are designing, developing, constructing, and testing mechanical or thermal devices, such as machines, tools, or engines. Mechanical engineers are usually working in a professional office, but occasionally they may need to visit a site where a piece of equipment or some other problem requires attention.
Usually, mechanical engineers are working in the engineering services sector, at research & development offices, at manufacturing corporations, or for government agencies. Last year, the average mechanical engineer salary was around $81,000, and the outlook for the profession may be called stable, especially for those who attend continuing education to learn everything about the latest technological developments.
Civil engineers are designing, constructing, supervising, operating, and maintaining large-scale construction projects and/or utility systems. They can be found working on projects that include airports, roads, bridges commercial, residential, or government buildings, tunnels, dams, sewage systems, or water supply systems.
These professionals usually will be working indoors in their offices, though they also will need to spend time at construction sites to monitor specific operations or to deal with problems onsite. Most civil engineers are full time employed. Civil engineers must first complete their high school or GED test diploma. Then a bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in civil engineering (or civil engineering technology).
Besides a graduate degree, they must receive licensure and to be eligible for advancement to a senior position, they may require more certificates as well. Although licensure requirements differ from state to state, must civil engineers, in general, be licensed in those locations where they work. The professional outlook for these professionals is expected to grow by some 20 percent over the next decade, and this is much faster than the national average for other occupations, and as the national infrastructure is getting older, more and more civil engineers are needed to come up with solutions for aging bridges, to repair major roads, and to upgrade dams and levees. Last year, civil engineers earned an average annual salary of around $79,850
Electrical and Electronics Engineer
An electrical engineer is designing, developing, testing, and often supervising the manufacturing process of electrical tools and equipment. These products may be all sorts of things, from navigation systems, electric motors, to complex communications systems or power generators. An electronics engineers is designing and developing electronic equipment, from simple portable radios and music players to highly sophisticated communications and broadcast systems or GPS (global positioning systems) devices.
Electrical and electronics engineers are working mainly at labs in research & development businesses, manufacturing or engineering firms, or for federal government agencies. Their work takes place mostly indoors, though sometimes they need to visit a certain site to deal with a problem or repair a piece of equipment. After completing high school or a GED test diploma, applicants must have attended college and hold at least a bachelor’s degree in electrical/electronics engineering.
The employment outlook for electrical and electronics engineers is expected to be reasonably stable over the next decade, but new technological developments will ensure continuous demand for these professionals. Last year, the median wage for these engineers was around $88,610 on a yearly basis.
An industrial engineer is engaged in the process of finding the best ways to eliminate all sorts of waste in manufacturing and production processes. These professionals create and develop the most efficient methods to use materials, machines, energy, information, and human resources within a production process to provide better service, or to make a better product efficiently. Industrial engineers can be found working not only in offices but also in the location or setting that they want to improve.
They may, for example, be watching workers who assemble parts on the factory floor or monitoring medical staff working in a hospital. When they are solving certain problems, these professionals may often be found working in their offices at a computer while examining and reviewing all relevant data they or their colleagues collected. Industrial engineers must hold a high school or GED test diploma, followed by at least a bachelor’s degree industrial engineering or a closely related field such as mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, general engineering, or industrial engineering technology.
The demand for industrial engineers is expected to grow slightly over the coming decade, a little less than the national average, and over the past year, the median annual salary for industrial engineers was around $78,900.
