Last Updated on April 10, 2024.

This post lists all GED prep classes and testing facilities in the Fredericksburg area. Virginia uses the computer-based GED test for high school equivalency testing.

The GED exam is given in an online format and at certified Virginia GED test centers.

The exam offers adults who never graduated from high school the chance to earn an equivalent credential.

The GED® test comes with four individual subtests that you can complete one test at a time if you wish.

The subtests cover the academic subject areas of

  • Social Studies (70 min)
  • Science (90 min)
  • Math (115 min)
  • English Language (150 min)

The GED testing level compares to that of a high school student upon graduation.

Introducing Online GED Testing

In the past, you never had the possibility to take the GED exam online. To acquire your Virginia GED degree, your personal appearance at an official, state-recognized Virginia GED testing center was required.

Now, this has changed as we saw the introduction of an online proctored GED testing option. Qualifying students can now take the GED test online from the comfort of their homes. An online proctor checks if the testing activities are in line with strict regulations. To read more about this great development, check out Introducing the online proctored GED exam.

GED Cost

In Virginia, the battery of four subtests will set you back $144, or $36 per test, and you only pay for what you take. You can prepare for one subject, register and pay for just that part, pass the subtest, and move on to the next part.

If you take the GED exam in an online proctored format, the cost will also be $144 ($36 per sub-exam). On top of that, you’ll also have to count the $28 that four GED Ready tests will set you back. There’s one of these practice tests for each sub-exam that you need to pass (the cost is $6.99 each). So your total cost will be $172. Onsego’s My Advantage students will receive four GED Ready tests for free!

You can register for the GED test 24/7 via the website GED.com. You need to create your account at MyGED, the online portal where you can also schedule and pay for your tests and learn in detail how the process works. Here, you can also check your scores and discover all sorts of things regarding job prospects and colleges.
