Four Modular GED Subtests

There are four GED subtests that cover the academic fields of

  • English Language Literacy
  • Social Studies
  • Math
  • Science

You can prepare for and take one of the four subtests (modules) at a time, and in the order you choose.

Testing is done at a level that compares to what students must know after four years of high school education. In Arizona, GED test-takers must additionally pass the state’s Civics Exam.

Who Can Take the GED Exam?

The totally computer-based GED (General Education Development) program is for adults who have never finished high school.

The certificate you receive upon successfully completing the Arizona GED exam is nationally recognized as equivalent to a high school degree by employers and educational institutions.

Online GED Testing

It is also possible to take the four GED subtests online. In the past, you had to show up in person at one of Arizona’s state-approved GED testing centers.

A few years ago, however, all of that changed when the online GED exam was rolled out across America.

An online proctor will guide you through the testing process. Want more information? Go to this post: The Online Proctored GED Test.

To qualify for online GED testing, you first need to score in the “green” zone on the GED Ready test, the official practice test from GED Testing Service.

There are four of these practice tests (one for each GED subtest) that cost $7.99 each on the GED.com website, for a total of $32.

Students with an Onsego Advantage Plan (available from $79 for the 6-month option) receive four GED Ready Vouchers at no cost. That’s included in their plan, a wonderful $32 bonus!
