This article lists all HiSET and GED prep class locations and testing facilities in the St. Joseph area. Missouri uses two options for applicants looking to earn their HSE high school equivalency) diploma, the GED and HiSET exams.
In the past, online GED or HiSET testing was not possible. Recently, however, we’ve seen the launch of the online ‘HiSET-At-Home’ exam and the ‘O.P. (Online Proctored) GED Test.’ Learn more below.
The exams are for adult learners who did not graduate from high school and offer them the chance to earn an equivalent degree.
The HiSET, like the GED exam, assesses knowledge at a level similar to what students must have learned in four years of high school.

Online HiSET and GED Testing
In the past, there was no option to take the HiSET or GED exam over the Internet. But recently, we’ve seen some important new developments as the online HiSET and GED tests were launched.
So now, you can also sit for the five HiSET or four GED modules (independent subtests) from your home if you have a good Internet connection. If you want to learn all about this new development, go to The online HiSET test for information about the ‘HiSET At Home’ exam. For all details about the OP (Online Proctored) GED test, check out this post.

GED Cost
The Missouri GED test costs $132 when taken at a testing center, but an additional annual $10 state fee applies. When taken online, the Missouri GED test costs $156, but you should also add the cost of four GED Ready tests that you must pass to qualify for online testing, which is an additional $28. Check here to learn more about how Missouri residents can earn their HSE diploma for free.
HiSET Cost
If you take the HiSET tests on a computer, the cost per subtest is $10,75 for ETS and $7 for the test center, so $17.75 in total per subtest. If you want to take the 5 tests in a paper-and-pencil version, you pay a $15 ETS fee plus a $7 testing center administration fee, so $22 in total.
When you register for the first HiSET subtest, there will be an annual $10 state administration fee. This fee will be collected once every year. Per subject test, ETS will provide two (2) free retests per subtest, but you’ll still have to pay the $7 test center fee.
Please note that taking the HiSET exam online is more expensive. In Missouri, the HiSET Exam At Home will set you back $151.25 for the entire HiSET battery.
GED and HiSET Passing Scores
GED scoring takes place on a scale from 100 to 200. The passing score is 145, and this applies to all four sub-exams. The GED scoring ranges are:
- 100-144: Below Passing
- 145-164: High School Equivalency
- 165-174: College-Ready
- 175-200: College-Ready + up to 10 College Credits
To pass the HiSET exam, you must at least attain a score of 8 (out of a possible 20) points on each of the five modules. Your overall score must be in the 45-100 range, and your essay score must be at least 2 (out of 6).
