On this page, we list all GED® (in Missouri: HiSET) prep class locations in the Kansas City MO region.
In Missouri, you must pass the HiSET if you want to earn your high school equivalency (HSE) diploma.
HSE testing provides adults who never graduated high school one more opportunity to obtain an equivalent degree.
The HiSET measures knowledge at the level of graduating high school seniors.
There are five subtests that make up the HiSET exam. Testing is done in science, writing, reading, math, and social studies.
Online preparation can be a perfect solution, but sitting for the HiSET exam (like the GED) must be done at state-certified test centers.
The HiSET (short for High School Equivalency Test) is offered in a computerized format and on paper.
Since recently, first-time HiSET test-takers can take the test for free in Missouri.
The state passed legislation that waives the testing fee (98,75) for first-time applicants.

A few years ago, Missouri dropped the GED test and uses the HiSET exam for its High School Equivalency (HSE) testing program. To be able to sit for the HiSET in Missouri you must be at least 18 years of age. In case you are 16 or 17 you are required to produce an official withdrawal document from the last school you attended, and beware, if you don’t come up with the proper documentation, you will be refused to take the exam.
Additionally, you must not be signed up for a secondary education program and not hold a secondary education credential. You are required to be a Missouri resident with a Missouri address. You need to sign a qualification document that verifies your address and bring it to the testing center. For more qualification criteria go to HiSET in Missouri.
Older adults who did not complete high school have no chance to return to high school, and the GED (or HiSET and TASC) track is their alternatives to acquire a secondary education credential. To become trusted as a real high school level test again, the GED exam went recently though impressive changes resulting in an assessment that is again as close to a high school graduate skills level as it has ever been.
Some states opted to dump the GED (too expensive, only computer-based) and introduced alternative testing methods. Some switched to the HiSET, others to the TASC and there are also states that offer all three options.
In Missouri, you are not required to take official practice tests or a pre-exam to be eligible to sit for the HiSET exam, but you are really encouraged to prepare well and take prep classes (onsite or online) before sitting for the official test. If you don’t pass one of the tests, you really should take a practice test to see what you must concentrate on most.
Upon taking the exam you must bring identification, expired identification is not accepted, and if you don’t have the proper documentation you will be excluded from taking the exam. Proper photo ID’s are valid passports, current driver’s licenses, state-issued ID cards, National ID cards, and Military ID cards. Check out as well this page that includes links to all US GED prep programs and testing locations.
Online GED (HiSET) testing?
Online GED or HiSET testing is NOT possible. You are required to show up in person at an official GED or HiSET test facility. Websites that have a different message are fraudulent.
