The Independent GED and HiSET Subtests
The exam includes five independent, modular subject tests in
- Math
- English Reading
- English Writing
- Science
- Social Studies
The GED exam comes with four individual sub-exams, as the reading and writing tests were merged into one Reasoning through Language Arts test.
HiSET testing can be done both paper-based and on a computer, whereas the GED can only be taken in a computer-based format.
All GED and HiSET subtests can be taken individually and in your preferred order.
The diploma you’ll receive after successfully taking the HiSET or GED exam is accepted across North America in lieu of a high school degree.

The HiSET and GED exams measure fundamental matters that students are taught in high school. After completing the GED or HiSET test successfully, you will receive the Louisiana High School Equivalency Diploma.

In Louisiana, we still can find some 600,000 adults who have not finished high school, and the HiSET and GED tests offer a perfect way for them to catch up.
Online HiSET and GED Testing
HiSET or GED testing over the Internet was never an option in the past. To earn your Louisiana high school equivalency credential, you needed to appear in person at a state-approved testing center.
However, the introduction of the online HiSET and GED tests a few years ago changed all of that.
When taking the exams from your own home in an online format, a proctor will manage your test-taking activities and check if everything happens in accordance with the rules and regulations.

To take the GED test online, you must first achieve passing scores (‘green’ results) on the GED Ready practice test by GED Testing Service.
There are four of these tests to pass (one per subject test), and they are $7.99 each, for a total of $32 in addition to the testing fees.
