GED Classes San Antonio, Texas

In this post, you can discover all GED® prep classes and test centers in the San Antonio region.

Texas offers three options for high school equivalency (HSE) testing, the GED, HiSET, and TASC.

The HSE test offers adults who never completed high school another chance to earn an equivalent credential.

All three options measure proficiency at a level that compares to that of graduating HS seniors.

The GED is fully computer-based whereas the HiSET and TASC are offered both on-computer and on-paper.

The GED exam has four subtests in Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. You are given two years to complete the four tests.

HiSET and TASC have individual writing and reading tests, so five tests overall that are also offered separately.

GED Essay Writing

Multiple testing options

Texas also allowed two alternative tests for the purpose of high school equivalency (HSE) testing, the HiSET (High School Equivalency Test) and TASC (Test Assessing Secondary Completion) exams. These two have five subtests (literacy is split up in reading and writing, are offered both on paper and on a computer, and are slightly cheaper than the computerized GED. Testing sites decide which test(s) they use, so get well-informed. To find out if you qualify, go to HSE testing criteria in Texas.

GED passing score

The GED passing score on each subtest was lowered from 150 to 145 (on a 100-200 scale) per test. Research had indicated that it was set at a too high level. Read all about it in our GED Score News post. TASC and HiSET come with their own scoring methods. Check out also this post that has links to all US GED prep schools and testing locations.

Online GED testing?

The GED exam is NOT offered online. If a website offers you the GED test, or the diploma, via the internet, you know that the website is false, the examination must be taken by you personally at an official Texas GED test center. Documents obtained via the internet will not be accepted by employers, colleges, and universities, or the military. Online prep courses are okay, though, so check out this website’s free GED video classes.

GED cost

In Texas, the cost for all four tests is $135 ($33.75 per individual test). In case don’t pass one of the sections at first try, you can re-test twice per testing section for $13.75 per test in the following year. If you re-tested three times within a year of your first attempt, you need to wait at least 90 days before you can take that test again (the price is then: $33.75).

One GED test at a time

The latest edition of the GED (General Education Development) test lets you take one of the four GED subtests at a time. You have two years to complete the entire battery of four tests! The HiSET and TASC modules may also be taken individually. So get all the help you can and keep in mind that the GED is for any student of any age as long as you meet the minimum age and other requirements.

You really should visit job fairs and business employment recruitment events for support and the adult education department staff of your school board may also be willing to do some counseling and answer your questions to get you ahead. Your diploma will also get you into college so get ready for the test and when you’re successful, registration for a great college program that will lead to a fulfilling and well-paying career is one of your great options and most colleges offer financial support as well.

*)  Lakehills Area Library

HSE preparation classes are held at Lakehills Area Library again. Region 20 Adult Education enabled the library to provide distance learning HSE preparation classes. This is meaning that individuals who want to earn their high school equivalency diploma have the chance to get training in order to sit for the GED, HiSET, or TASC exam successfully at the time that suits them best.

One-on-one tutoring is offered as well on several days every month and the provided classes are very flexible. This implies that students will be able to use computers at the library or at home and learn at their own schedule and pace.

As said, a few days per month they can meet with teachers at the library on scheduled days and get assistance. The library must have at least ten registered students to start the program, so take advantage of this great opportunity to earn your Texas HSE diploma and get in touch with the library by calling 830-510-2777 or stop by to register for the class.
