The GED exam is available in an online format and at official Texas test centers. The assessment is offered exclusively on a computer and in English and Spanish.

GED® testing occurs via four separate modules (subtests) that can be taken individually. The tests cover

• Math
• English Language
• Science

Until recently, online GED testing was not an option. You were required to show up at a Texas HSE (High School Equivalency) testing site and take the tests in person.

This has changed now, however, as we’ve seen the launch of a GED online proctored test-taking option as well. Read more at the bottom of this page.

Free GED Test in Texas

Thanks to a generous Texas Workforce Commission grant, qualifying test-takers can take the GED exam at no cost in Texas.

To be eligible for free testing, applicants must be Texas residents, at least 21 years of age, and not already have a high school or equivalent credential. The link will lead you to an article with further explanation.

Welcoming Online GED Testing

Until recently, to sit for the GED test, you were required to show up in person at one of Texas’ state-recognized high school equivalency test centers. Online testing was never an option.
