The assessment provides adults who never graduated high school the opportunity to earn an equivalent diploma.
GED® testing is administered at a level similar to what HS seniors must know upon graduation.
The GED has four subtests assessing your skills and knowledge of these academic subjects:
- Math
- Science
- English Language Literacy
- Social Studies
You can write these sub-exams separately and in your preferred order.
Online GED Classes

In the past, there was never an online GED testing option. You had to appear personally at one of Utah’s GED testing centers.
But this has now changed with the launch of an online proctored GED test-taking option. For more information, check the bottom of this page.

Test-Taking and Study Tips
- Get familiar with the testing format. It will help you attain a good score. If you take multiple practice tests, you’ll not only discover your strong and weak points, but you’ll also get used to answering multiple-choice questions and other types of questions found on the GED test.
- If you want to sign up for an online prep course, understand the various requirements of your course and plan study schedules accordingly. The second thing is to browse through your course page and get familiar with the layout. You should know everything about software requirements, different sections, additional purchases, installations, and more. You should open a lot of tabs and go through them thoroughly. You should also check some testimonials from other students.
- Keep Yourself Organized – You should keep separate folders for every subject. You need to divide your folders by the type of assignment and week. This will help you stay organized. Whenever you need to go through your notes, you will know exactly where to look.
- Avoid Distractions – This is the most basic advice for all students. Studying on the computer can bring you close to many distractions. While researching for information or exploring a topic, you might find it hard to resist the temptation of visiting other websites. You need to stick to the course during study time.
